Washington Nationals vs Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to return back to Chase Field for game 3 of a 4 game home series against National League foe in the Washington Nationals, first pitch is at 4:05 PM ET. Before this series, these two teams met for a 3 game series from 4/27 to 4/29 where Arizona was a winner in 2 of the 3 matchups.
Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :
The Washington Nationals have endured injuries all season long which has been the excuse to why they have underachieved through the first month of baseball but the Nationals have been in much better form as of recent as they have won 8 of their last 10 games to propel themselves back towards the top of the division. The Nationals couldn’t close their road series against the San Diego Padres on a high note as they didn’t support the pitching staff with runs. Gio Gonzalez has been fairly solid in his 11th season as the starter enters this series with a 4-2 record and a 2.22 ERA, and Gonzalez continued a solid season with a good outing on 5/9. Gonzalez closed out the Padres series by giving the Nationals 6 innings of work striking out 8 guys, but his Bryce Harper-less lineup was only able to give the Nationals 1 run. Bryce Harper leads the team in HRs (12) and RBIs (28) but due to a long road trip the Nationals elected to rest their young superstar to save him for this series which his offense is needed much more. The Nationals lone run came off the bat of Anthony Rendon who went 2 for 4 from the plate with a solo HR in the top of the 2nd inning which was his 2nd of the year. The Nationals expect alot more out of their 6th-year 3B as Rendon is coming off his best year yet where he had 25 HRs and cracked the 100 RBI mark for the first time in his career.
Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :
Bullpen Roughed Up
The Arizona Diamondbacks were one of the surprise teams in the MLB as they took a commanding lead in the NL West but as of recent, the Diamondbacks have slowed down as they are trading wins and losses with a 5-5 record in their last 10 games. The Diamondbacks closed out their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers with their best pitcher on the mound in Patrick Corbin who entered their 5/9 matchup with a 4-0 record and a 2.15 ERA. Corbin continued his good season as the gave the Diamondbacks 5 solid innings where he struck out 7 guys, but what happened after Corbin left the game is what lost the game. The 9th-year reliever Fernando Salas has been a solid pitcher throughout his career as he has a 3.87 career ERA but his 5/9 appearance was not one to remember as Salas gave up 3 earned runs on 3 hits in only .2 innings of work. Jorge de la Rosa is another guy who has been enjoying a solid year as he entered his 18th appearance with a 1.50 ERA but he had an 8th inning collapse where he gave up 2 earned runs which gave the Dodgers their 3 runs cushion. The Diamondbacks were nothing spectacular on the offensive end as they only scored 3 runs but they did receive a highlight play with SS Nick Ahmed. Ahmed hit his 6th HR of the year in the top of the 1st inning but it wasn’t you typical moonshot as Ahmed was able to sneak a ball into the right spot in the field and come all the way around for an inside-the-park HR.

Against The Spread Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks
My reason for the pick :
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been rolling on all cylinders this season and even though they have endured a slump as of recent I have full confidence in this team rebounding especially at home where they have been great this season. Normally I wouldn’t put my early money on a team without knowing who is taking the mound but I am confident that the Diamondbacks can still get the job done as their starting pitchers have a 3.42 ERA to help contribute to the 2nd best ERA in all of baseball. The Nationals are still way too banged up in the injury department to back them as their offensive outputs have been inconsistent throughout the year. Diamondbacks win at home.
