Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Boston Red Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays will open up a three-game series against division-rival Boston at the Rogers Centre. The Red Sox are coming off a victory that brings them back up to the top of the NL East. It will be a challenging game for the Blue Jays considering how hot the Red Sox are right now.

Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

The Red Sox were able to snap the Yankees 8 game winning streak after beating them out in the rubber game. The Red Sox will now hit the road for a mini road trip to Toronto. The Red Sox have reclaimed the top spot in the AL East division and have a road record of 15-7 this season. The Red Sox are 2nd in batting with 200 runs scored already this season, after losing out in their first two games they were able to handle the Yankees in the closeout game.

Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. He also drove in runs with an RBI groundout in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the third. The 34-year-old is in the midst of a resurgent year, batting .298/.361/.466 with 24 RBI and 22 runs scored in 33 games to date. Look for him to play well in this series Ramirez always seems to be the player that shows up when the Red Sox need him most.

J.D. Martinez hit a solo, go-ahead home run in the eighth inning after the game was tied at 4 a piece, he now has nine homers and 29 RBI in his first year in Boston. He is playing well because he is now in an environment where players are playing to win, you will start to see the winner mentality rub off on him.

Mookie Betts went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored Betts continued his assault on the baseball, as he’s now 13-for-32 in the month of May. He’s hitting .361/.441/.803 overall, with 13 homers, 27 RBI and 38 runs scored. He is the cornerstone of this Red Sox offense this season he has been on a tear.

Pitching for the Red Sox will be Drew Pomeranz. He has an ERA of 5.23 with 20 strikeouts this season. He gave up just four hits while walking two, battling through an apparent fingernail issue. It’s Pomeranz’s best outing so far this season and his arrow is pointing up with two straight quality starts following a couple clunkers.

Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :

The Blue Jays have now lost two straight series, the Mariners and the Rays they have lost 3 consecutive home series trying to avoid their 4th in a row, they have a record of 20-18 placing them 3rd in the AL East. During the Mariners series, they suffered a shutout despite being ranked 6th in scoring this season. It is hard for a team to crawl back into the game if you give up a grand slam in the first inning. The Blue Jays right now have on of the worst starting rotation in the Major with an ERA of 5.53 through 38 games this season, they will hope to fix this problem when the Red Sox come to visit. The Blue Jays are 10-9 when playing at home this season.

J.A. Happ is the team best pitcher but he had one of the worst nights of his career. He allowed 10 runs over his last nine innings and has lost back to back starts. The bad start leaves him with a 4-3 record, 4.80 ERA, and 1.27 WHIP. J.A. Happ is too good of a pitcher to let a bad game bother him. This is the same pitcher that struck out 10 Red Sox batter at the end of April. He will be just fine.

Russel Martin was the only bright spot on the Blue Jays, he was able to create a spark on offense by hitting a two-run homer. The homer was Martin’s third in his last seven games, giving him five on the year. Those five homers are nice, but they’re part of just 13 hits in 25 games this year. Martin is hitting just .151/.277/.360 overall.

The Blue Jays now have to face a really challenging task as they will go up against elite batters in Major Betts, Martinez, and Ramirez.

Pitching for the Blue Jays will be Marcus Stroman. He is off to the worst start of his career, with an ERA that sits at 7.71 through six outings. He has allowed at least four runs in all but one of his starts this season and has been able to complete six innings just once.

How Boston Red Sox & Toronto Blue Jays Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Red Sox are 15-6 in their last 21 vs. American League East.

Blue Jays are 1-4 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox

My reason for the pick :

The batting of the Boston Red Sox will be too much to handle for the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays have one of the worst rotation in the league and I expect them to continue to struggle on the mound as the Red Sox batters will have an easy game on the road.

  • Red Sox are 15-6 in their last 21 road games.

Betting trends for Toronto Blue Jays:
