Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :

Kennedy Roughed Up

The Kansas City Royals had a perfect opportunity in front of them to pick up some much-needed wins in their last series against the Baltimore Orioles, but the Royals have continued their sluggish start to the season as they dropped 2 of the 3 games to the worst team in baseball. The Royals have a solid starting pitching staff as they host a bunch of veterans who have proven their worth throughout their careers with one of those guys being 33-year-old Ian Kennedy. Ian Kennedy may be 7 years removed from his 21-4 season but he should still be able to eat innings for the Royals. Kennedy has not been good in 2018 as he enters this series with a 1-4 record and a 4.61 ERA, and his recent start against the Baltimore Orioles sums up his season. Kennedy was only able to give the Royals 4 innings as he was pulled after giving up 9 earned runs on 8 hits. The offense for the Royals has been much better and 5/10 was an example of that as they were able to squeeze out 6 runs on 10 hits. The Royals have enjoyed the return of their all-star catcher Salvador Perez who has been on a tear since he came off the DL, and this game was an example of his production as he was able to hit a grand slam in the top of the 1st inning. Perez addition to the lineup gives the Royals another bat as the 8th-year catcher has hit 20+ HRs the last 3 seasons.

Cleveland Indians's Latest Performance :

Solid Start From Carrasco

We have seen through the first month and a half of baseball that the Cleveland Indians depend on their starting rotation as their success has been based on the outings of their deep rotation due to a weak offense. Outside of Josh Tomlin, the starting rotation holds an ERA of 3.04 which is one of the best in all of baseball. The Indians were able to show us an example of this as Carlos Carrasco was able to give them another good outing in what was his 8th start of the season on 5/9 against the Milwaukee Brewers. Carrasco was able to pitch a complete game as he gave the Indians 9 solid innings with 14 strikeouts to help contribute to his 5-1 record and 53 strikeouts. The main reason that Carrasco may have been prompted to go the full game is due to the injury of the Indians top reliever in Andrew Miller who has not given up a single run in his 11 appearances. Carlos Carrasco didn’t only contribute to the Indians success in only the pitching department as he was able to record an RBI Single in the top of the 9th inning. The Indians were much better in the hitting department in this ballgame as they were able to record 6 runs on 11 hits. Francisco Lindor was able to contribute to his hot stretch as the young SS was able to hit his 5th HR in as many as 7 games which has given him a team-high in HRs with 10.

Against The Spread Selection: Cleveland Indians

My reason for the pick :

The Cleveland Indians want to make sure they close out their home series against one of the worst teams in the MLB on a high note and they have a major advantage in this game as they have their ace on the mound. Corey Kluber looks like he can be a candidate for another Cy Young award as the starter has been great this season and he gets to go against a bottom 10 offense in the Royals. Duffy just received his first win of the season but it was against the Baltimore Orioles who aren’t much of a competitor this season. Cleveland has the advantage with their pitching in this matchup and they get to play at home.
