Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros

A 3-game set between the visiting Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros will wrap up on Sunday at 2:10 pm EST with the finale being held at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.  The Texas Rangers occupy the 5th spot within the AL West division while the Houston Astros are in 1st place within the division.  This will be the 3rd matchup amongst these two teams in 2018 with the Astros winning 4 of the last 6 contests with the Rangers winning 2 of the last 3 at Minute Maid Park.

Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :

The Texas Rangers have lost 4 of their last 6 games to where the O/U was 3-2-1.  Recently, the Rangers was defeated in a 3-game road series against the Cleveland Indians while following this up with a 4-game home series loss to the Boston Red Sox on 5-6-2018.  Nonetheless, they were able to pick up a series win against the struggling Detroit Tigers at home on 5-9-2018.  As you can see, the Rangers have been up and down all season and would love to turn the tide on this season with a win in the finale against the defending champs.

For the season, the Rangers are averaging 3.94 runs per game (22nd) with a team batting average of .237 (21st), 38 homers (6th) along with 13 stolen bases (18th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.93 (26th) with 243 strikeouts (19th) along with 9 quality starts on the season (27th).

Adrian Beltre (.310 BA on 87 AB) and Nomar Mazara (.280 BA on 118 AB) have been the offensive stars for the Rangers thus far.  On the other hand, Shin-Soo Choo (.252 BA on 123 AB) and Joey Gallo (.225 BA on 120 AB) have also been solid all-season long.

The only pitcher that has pitched more than 35 innings on this staff is Cole Hamels (1-4) who has pitched 39.2 innings this season while allowing 21 runs on 29 hits, 8 homers, 16 walks, and 47 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.08.

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Houston Astros had just been swept in a 4-game set at home against the Yankees when their rough patch continued with a loss in the following series, this on the road against the pesky Arizona Diamondbacks on 5-6-2018.  The Astros did, however, recover from this skid by sweeping the Oakland A’s in a 3-game road set on 5-9-2018.  In all, it seems as if the Astros are slowly weathering the storm from those devastating losses that occurred recently, however, they must continue to play to their strengths:  Obtaining timely hits from their lineup as well as solid performances from their talented pitching staff.

For the season, Houston is averaging 4.91 runs per game (9th) with a team batting average of .254 (6th), 22 homers (11th), along with 10 stolen bases on the year (13th).  Their pitching staff ranks highest in MLB stats with an ERA of 2.28 (1st) with 240 strikeouts (1st) along with 16 quality starts (1st).

Jose Altuve (.349 BA on 86 AB), Carlos Correa (.333 BA on 75 AB), Josh Reddick (267 BA on 60 AB), and Alex Bregman (.241 BA on 83 AB) has spearheaded the Astros offense throughout the year.  George Springer (.239 BA on 88 AB) and Even Gattis (.219 BA on 64 AB) have also been solid contributors for the Astros at the plate.

Charlie Morton (4-0) has been consistent this year for Houston pitching 36.2 innings while allowing only 7 runs on 8 hits, 4 homers, 13 walks, and 45 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.72 while Justin Verlander (4-0) has pitched 47.2 innings thus far while allowing 7 runs on 24 hits, 4 homers, 8 walks, and 62 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.13.  Lance McCullers (4-1) has also been solid as he has pitched 34 innings while allowing 15 runs on 29 hits, 3 homers, 12 walks, 44 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.71.

How Texas Rangers & Houston Astros Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Texas Rangers are 16-23 ATS while the O/U is 21-15-3.  On the other hand, the Houston Astros are 20-19 ATS while the O/U is 14-23-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This intrastate matchup will be interesting in that the Rangers are seeking for the right buttons in which to push to get some quality wins while the Astros have seemingly solved the problems that were evident just a few games ago to slowly build upon a current winning streak from which to build even more confidence and momentum from.  It would important to note that the Astros are slightly above average at home on the money line (10-9) and are merely 6-13 ATS at Minute Maid Park for the year.  On the other hand, the Rangers are .500 on the road on the money line (8-8) along with 9-7 ATS on the road, thus far.  In all, it will be interesting to see how both teams perform in the finale.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

While the Astros have not played outstanding at home this year, I will remain confident that they will be able to put the Rangers away in the finale on Sunday.  Combine this with the Astros coming out of their funk in which to win 3-staright can very well signify that they are beginning to click on all cylinders once again.
