Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington Nationals vs Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks will welcome back the Nationals for the 3rd game of the 4 game series, these two teams are evenly matched and it will go down to the wire every single game.

Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :

The Nationals were able to steal the series opener against a very good home team, the D-Backs. It took the Nationals 11 innings and four relievers to get the job done. The Nationals will look to build on this performance and take it game by game. Expect the D-Backs offense to find their form and once AJ Pollock gets going it will be very hard for the D-Backs to contain him. The Nationals are 3rd in the NL East, the Nationals are a much better batting team than the D-Backs they are ranked 10th with 178 runs scored this year 20 more than the D-Backs.

Matt Adams was beneficiary as he was the one that secured the victory over the D-Backs in the first game with an RBI. With the two teams knotted at 1-1 in the eleventh inning, notching an RBI single off Andrew Chafin to snap the tie after the Nationals put the first two runners on base to open the frame. He is slashing .298/.410/.702. He has 10 home runs and driven in 25 total runs through 32 games played this year. He will look to continue to be hot against the D-Backs.

Pitching for the Nationals will be Jemery Hellickson. He has been all the Nats could ask for since joining their rotation as the fifth starter. He takes the mound after flirting with a perfect game in his most recent outing. He finished with a season-high 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight.

Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :

The D-Backs lost their series opener against the Nationals, the team fell apart in the 11th inning at home. Coming into this series the D-Backs are 17th in scoring and averaging only 4.27 runs per game, they were only managed to score one in their last outing and the only RBI came from pitcher Zack Greinke. He firing off seven-plus innings allowing only one run.  He finished his night’s work having thrown 91 pitches (66 for strikes). To be completely blunt to have your pitcher scoring the RBI that is really bad batting considering the pool of talent that D-Back has, they must do better in the next time out.

David went 2-for-4 with a walk, he has now turned in two-hit performances in two of his last four games. The outfielder is slashing .295/.387/.500 with six home runs and 19 RBI across 31 games played this season. He will have to show up in the next home game for the D-Backs as he is the catalyst of the D-Back offense.

AJ Pollock wasn’t able to get it going as he went 0 for 5 in the series opener, however, he is too good of batter to allow one bad game bother him, he is on a tear offensively for the D-Backs this season. His season line is up to .297/.353/.645 with 10 homers, 29 RBI, 22 runs scored and eight steals. I expect him to brush off this bad outing as he will look to finish this series strong.

Pitching for the D-Backs will be Zack Godley. He has given up four earned runs in two of his last three starts, including his last outing Tuesday against the Dodgers. The other was April 25, when he earned the victory at Washington despite giving up a season-high 10 hits. He now has an ERA of 3.83 while striking out 37 this season.

Against The Spread Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks

My reason for the pick :

The Diamondbacks should be able to bounce back from the loss as they will take charge of this series moving forward. In this game, Godley will shut down the Nationals batters as the D-Back will look to take care of business at home.
