Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :

Panic Time

The Los Angeles Dodgers have looked nothing like their 2017 selves and it might be time to hit the panic button in Los Angeles as the Dodgers just got swept in a 4 game series against one of the worse teams in the MLB as they got embarrassed at home by the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers ended their home series against the Cincinnati Reds with a 5-3 loss as they didn’t receive a great effort from their bats or their pitchers. Rich Hill got the start in their 5/13 matchup which was only his 5th start of the season as the southpaw has struggled with injuries and inconsistency. Hill enters this series with a 6.20 ERA and although he was much better in his most recent start he still received his 2nd loss of the season after giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits in 5.2 innings of work. The bleeding wasn’t stopped in Rich Hill’s exit as 32-year-old Pat Venditte got wrecked as he gave up 2 earned runs in his short appearance as he only recorded 1 out. Venditte has only seen action in two games this season and the 3rd year reliever has not been very good as he now posts a 10.80 ERA. The Dodgers woe on the hitting end of things continued as they were only able to squeeze out 5 hits against one of the worse pitching staff’s in the MLB. One positive the Dodgers can take out of this game is the potential turnaround of Yasiel Puig who was able to hit his 1st HR of the 2018 season. Puig has been one of the most electric players for the Dodgers in his first 6 seasons as the OF has delivered big time HRs in needed situations as well as delivered 28 HRs in 2017.

Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :

Late Game Rally Not Enough

The Miami Marlins are playing for pride at this point of the season as they are just beginning a long rebuild which is apparent given their recent play as the Marlins have lost 7 of their last 10 games. The Marlins closed out their recent series against the Atlanta Braves with a 4-3 loss but the score is a lot closer than the game actually was as the 3 runs came in the bottom of the 9th with one swing of the bat. The Marlins elected to start 4th-year pitcher Jose Urena who has struggled in 2018 as he entered this series with a 0-6 record and a 4.38 ERA. Jose Urena showed promise as the future ace for the Marlins as the 26-year-old had a great season in 2017 as he went 14-7 with a 3.82 ERA, but with the way this season has been going decisions will have to be made. Urena started on 5/13 against the Braves as he went 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits, and although that stat line isn’t awful he received no support from his offense who were only able to squeeze out 4 hits. The Marlins only had 1 hit entering the 9th inning but the combination of pinch-hitters and one of their most consistent bats in Starlin Castro allowed the Marlins to put a 3 spot on the scoreboard as well as 3 more hits. Justin Bour delivered the lone runs as he came into pinch hit with 2 runners on base and took a ball deep to give him his team-high 8th HR as well as his 21st RBI. Justin Bour is the lone Marlin with 20+ RBIs which summarizes the season for this young ballclub as they have struggled in the run department.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Dodgers

My reason for the pick :

The Dodgers have struggled and that is no secret but one thing that has me confident in the Dodgers snagging a win on the road is the fact that they have one of their best pitchers on the mound against the worse offense in the MLB. Buehler has been sensational in his rookie year as he gave the Dodgers 6 innings of hitless baseball in one of his starts at the beginning of May. The Dodgers also have the advantage on the hitting end of things and with the rookie Caleb Smith on the mound for the Marlins I can’t back this struggling ballclub as the lefty has struggled with consistency this season as he follows great games up with awful outings. Back LA on the road.
