New York Yankees's Latest Performance :

Stanton Delivers

The New York Yankees have been the hottest team in baseball over the last 2 weeks as the Bronx Bombers have won 8 of their last 10 matchups to give them the best record in baseball. The Yankees were able to close out their recent home series against the Oakland Athletics on a high-note as they were able to win 6-2 behind great hitting from Giancarlo Stanton and solid pitching from ace Luis Severino. Stanton has shown signs in a repeat of his 2017 season with his new home and his 5/13 matchup was a prime example of that as the Yankees slugger went a perfect 4 for 4 from the plate with 1 HR and 3 RBIs. Giancarlo Stanton has dropped his beginning of the season slump as the 6’6 OF has batted .391 in his last 7 games as well as put together 3 HRs in this period. Stanton used a solo HR in the bottom of the 5th inning to give him his 10th HR of the season which marks history for this historic franchise as the Yankees have never had 4 guys with 10+ HRs through the first 40 games. The Yankees were able to receive another good game out of their ace Luis Severino as the 24-year-old was able to pick up his 6th win of the season after giving Aaron Boone and company 6 innings where he only gave up 1 earned run as well as put together 7 strikeouts. Severino went to his first all-star game in 2017 as the righty went 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA and the ace should expect another invite to the all-star game as he has been one of the best in the MLB with a 6-1 record and a 2.14 ERA.

Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :

Nats Red Hot

The Washington Nationals have turned around their slow start to the season as they have now won 8 of their last 10 matchups to propel them only 1.5 games out of 1st place in the NL East. The Nationals may not be fully healthy as they are still missing all-star Daniel Murphy but they were able to receive another bat back in 1B Mark Reynolds who played in his first game of the season in a 5/13 matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Reynolds is a much-needed bat for the Nationals as the 12-year veteran is coming off one of the best years in his career as he hit 30 HRs and 87 RBIs. Reynolds picked up just where he left off as the right-handed pitcher was able to connect for 2 HRs in his first game of the 2018 season. The Nationals run support didn’t only stop at Reynolds as the potential MVP Bryce Harper was able to connect for a solo HR to give him his league-high 13th HR of the season. The Nationals were also able to pick up a solid start from Jeremy Hellickson as the 31-year-old gave the Nats 5 innings of work where he gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits. Hellickson started off the season by giving up 7 earned runs in his first 3 starts but as of recent the righty has been much better as he has only given up 1 earned run in 17.2 innings of work. Sean Doolittle was able to continue his dominance in the closer role as the left-handed reliever picked up his 9th save of the season after giving the Nationals a solid 9th inning. Doolittle has been really good in the strikeout department as the 7th-year pitcher has struck out 28 guys this season in 18.2 innings of work.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Nationals

My reason for the pick :

The Washington Nationals have finally looked like that contender that we expected entering this season, and they have one of their best pitchers on the mound with former Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer on the mound. The reason that I am backing the Nationals in this matchup is the fact that these two pitchers are trending in two opposite directions as Scherzer is coming off one of the best starts this season while C.C got shelled the last start. The Nationals are also in much better form with Mark Reynolds back in the lineup and we have seen that the 1B pick up where he has left off. Fly with the Nationals in their home ballpark to continue their hot stretch.
