Philadelphia Phillies vs Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles will welcome the Phillies to Oriole Park as the two teams will be facing off in a 2 game series in an interleague matchup. The Phillies are 2nd in the NL East division and the O’s are 5th in the AL East. This will be the first matchup between the two this season.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Phillies will start their 6 game road trip on Wednesday as they will travel to play the O’s. The Phillies are 7-10 on the road this season. The Phillies are winners of 5 of their last 6 games, they swept the Giants earlier this month including a shutout win against them. Coming into this series the Phillies are 10th in scoring averaging as team 4.73 runs per game, the reason why the Phillies have a record of 23-16 is that of their subline pitching they are now 6th best with an ERA of 3.44. The Phillies have quality pitchers that can take over games. The Phillies starters have posted a 1.99 ERA with 67 strikeouts in 11 games this month, they have allowed one run or fewer during their starts. If they are able to win on the road against the O’s it’s a high probability that they will take over the NL East as they now only one game behind the Braves.
Nick Williams came off the bench and provided the spark the Phillies needed, he struck a three-run homer off Paul Sewald with two outs to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead. It’s the second homer of the season for the struggling outfielder, he is now slashing .229/.308/.341 on the year.
Carlos Santana went 2-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored. The homer is his seventh of the season. He is hitting is starting to improve over the last few games he is slashing .196/.306/.436 line on the season.
Odubel Herrera will have a great series on the road against the O’s he is currently slashing .360/.430/.561 this season to go along with 26 RBIs on the year he has scored 23 runs scored through 38 games.
Pitching for the Phillies will be Vince Velasquez. He bounced back from a shaky first two innings in his last start on Thursday to strike out 12 over six innings while allowing three earned runs vs. the Giants. He has won his past two outings. He is 3-4 on the season with 50 strikeouts, he will look to lower his 5.50 ERA when he plays the O’s.
Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :
The Orioles will cap off their 9 game homestand as they will welcome the Phillies to play the final two games. The O’s are coming off an impressive blowout win against the Rays where they put up 17 runs their best offensive performance this year despite being ranked last in scoring in the American Leauge. The scoring outburst was led by Joey Rickard who was just recently recalled from the Triple-A. He homered twice and drove in five runs. The O’s will look to build on this offensive outburst when they play a very strong team, the Phillies.
Manny Machado is the O’s leader in every category, went 3 for 5 and scored a double RBI, he is having a terrific season with 38 RBIs scored this season to go along with his 13 homers. Manny is slashing .350/.431/.669 this season. He is also on a 6 game-hitting streak heading into the Phillies series and expect the streak to continue as he has been on a tear offensively for this O’s team. In the last 3 games, he has 4 homers.
Danny Valencia went 4-for-5 with a homer and 4 RBI. He’s been excellent with the bat over the month of May, and it’s helped his line rise to .264/.333/.500 in 25 games with the Orioles expect him to play well in the next two home games against the Phillies. Trey Mancini went 2-for-5 with a homer and two runs scored. It was his 6th homer of the season, he is now slashing .275/.333/.444 with the six homers and 16 runs batted in over his 39 games in 2018.
