Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
St. Louis Cardinals vs Minnesota Twins
The Twins will welcome the Cards to Target Center for an interleague matchup as both teams will go face to face in a 2 game series. This is the second meeting between the two teams, the first meeting ended up with the Twins sweeping the series scoring a combined 13 runs in 2 games while the Cards were able to put up 1 run.
St. Louis Cardinals 's Latest Performance :
The Cards were unable to secure the series win against the Padres dropping their final two games in the series. The Cards are trying to avoid what happened last time when they were matched up with the Twins, they gave up 13 runs and scored only once in the series. If the Cards are able to turn things around they might have a chance of taking over the NL Central from the Brewers. This season the Cards are 10-9 on the road.
Jose Martinez is the team leader in RBIs with 22, he was able to hit a homer the last time he played against the Twins as he hopes to be on the winning side time around. The Cards are having a really hard time scoring against the Twins. The first baseman now has his line up to .294/.372/.456 on the season to go along with 4 homers and 22 RBI over his first 36 games of the season. Jose can’t do it alone he will need help from this fellow batters when they visit the Twins.
Marcell Ozuna after a hot start thing has started to cool down for Ozuna after starting the year on fire ever since then we rarely hear his name. On May 11th he struck a homer and that was pretty much his last game he had an impact on the game. He is slashing .265/.300/.358 this season. The team will desperately need his production against the Twins because they can’t afford to lose in another shutout.
Pitching for the Cards will be Miles Mikolas. He places his record on the line as the Cardinals put a bow on a six-game road trip at Minnesota. Mikolas allowed a run and five hits over 6 2/3 innings in his last outing at San Diego.
Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :
The Twins will be back at Target Center for an 8 game homestand after finishing their road trip with a record of 7-3. The homestand opens with a two-game series against the Cardinals. The Twins are 7-7 at home this season. They are 22nd in the league when it comes to pitching with an ERA of 4.59. The Twins are 2nd in the AL Central they are now tied in the lost column with the Indians. In their last series, the Twins were able to split the season series against a very strong Angels team.
The Offense should pick up again because the Twins won’t be facing Ohani every night. Although the Twins must do a better job closing out games.
Eddie Rosario is the team leader in home runs with 9 and RBIs with 27. The Twins will need his production against the Cards after failed to show up in the final game against the Angels where he went 0 for 4 and got struck out twice. His line this season is .287/.311/.559. If Eddie is able to rediscover his form the twins are a really hard team to beat.
Joe Mauer was the only batter who was able to score against the Angels, hitting a base hit, it is now his second straight game with an RBI as he hopes his RBI streak will continue against the Cards. He is slashing .285/.417/.366.
Pitching for the Twins at home will be Lance Lynn will get the chance to face his former team, as he had a 3.38 ERA in six seasons with the Cardinals. But Lynn is off to the worst start of his career and allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings against the Angels last time out.
