Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Mets
The Mets will return home to start their 8 games homestand, they will welcome the Blue Jays to Citi Field as both teams will go face to face in a 2 game series.
Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :
The Blue Jays will hit the road for a two-game series against the Mets. The Blue Jays are sitting in 3rd place in the AL East division with a record of 21-19, for the moment the Blue Jays are trying to stay within arm’s length of the top two team in the division, the Yankees, and the Red Sox. The Blue Jays aren’t having a bad season at all but they are just in a very tough division and they have arguably the best two teams in the Major. Coming into this series the Blue Jays are 6th in batting with 193 runs scored this season. The problem of the Blue Jays lies in their pitching as they are ranked 21st in the league with an ERA of 4.41.
Yangervis Solarte will look to bounce back on the road for the Blue Jays, he is the team leader in RBIs at 23 despite scoring his last RBI on May 9th. The thing about baseball is that batters will go on hitting streaks and no one can stop them, while others times they might hit a drought and can’t do anything for a long time, but it only takes one game to regain his confidence and playing against the struggling Mets would definitely help. He is slashing .253/.329/.486 with 9 home runs this season.
Luke Maile will look to continue his impressive form hitting his first career multi-homer against the Red Sox and hoping to do the same against the Mets. He has been a nice surprise for the Blue Jays this season, batting .339/.418/.542 over 17 games along with 14 RBIs.
Pitching for the Blue Jays will be Jamie Garcia. He has not completed six innings since his first start of the season. He walked five batters in his last outing vs. Seattle, but that game also marked the first time the lefty did not allow a homer in 2018. He is 2-2 on the year with 35 strikeouts and a 5.40 ERA in seven starts.
New York Mets's Latest Performance :
The Mets team has dropped 8 of 10 games after the hot start to the season. The Mets are hoping that they can figure out a winning solution when the Blue Jays come to visit. The Mets are having a hard time generating runs they had gone 15 consecutive innings without a run, they are ranked 27th in batting this season with only 152 runs scored this season. Despite their struggles, the Mets still have a record of 19-17 and they still have time to turn things around this season. The Mets will have to take it one step at a time to get to where they were at the start of the season.
Michael Conforto came alive as he gave the Mets their 2nd win in 10 games, he came up clutch in the 9th inning as he clubbed a go-ahead two-run homer giving the Mets the lead. He finished the night 2-for-3 with a walk. After going 23 games without a homer, Conforto has two homers in his last four games. Hitting performance like this one will carry on into the next series. Conforto is trying to do all he can for the Mets to become relevant in the NL East division. He is slashing .207/.345/.348 with 3 homers and 9 RBIs this season.
Devin Mesoraco finally got his first hit for Mets and finally snapped his season-long winless streak. It must be a great feeling after being 0-for-8 with the Mets before the ninth-inning blast. He has dealt with all sorts of injury issues in recent years and hasn’t really hit since 2014, expect him to do well at home against the Blue Jays.
Pitching for the Mets will be Noah Syndergaard. He will return to the mound at Citi Field on eight days’ rest. He has not won a game since April 9, despite delivering four consecutive quality starts. Opponents are hitting .287 against him over that stretch. He has an ERA of 3.09 while striking out 54 this season.
