Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :
The Toronto Blue Jays started off the season as one of the best teams in baseball but the team North of the border has struggled as of recent as they have dropped 7 of their last 10 games. The Blue Jays closed out their recent home series with a 5-3 loss against the Boston Red Sox as the starters struggled once again which has been the story all season as the 6 starters have a 10-18 record with a 5.88 ERA. The Blue Jays elected to start 3rd-year righty Joe Biagini who has struggled in his short career and 5/13 was nothing different as he gave up 4 earned runs on 4 hits in only 4.2 innings of work. Biagini 2018 season is just a small sample size of his career as he has gone 0-2 with a 7.98 ERA in 3 starts this season. The bullpen was solid against one of the best teams in the MLB as the combination of John Axford and Tyler Clippard gave the Jays 3 shutout innings. Tyler Clippard and John Axford have been two of the best relievers on not only the Jays but in the MLB as the duo has gone a combined 4-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 42.2 innings. The Blue Jays were able to get hits off the good Boston Red Sox pitchers as they actually outhit the Sox 10-8, but they left 5 guys in scoring position which resulted in only 3 runs being scored. The Blue Jays were able to receive offensive production from their typical sources as Justin Smoak delivered a 2-run double in the bottom of the 5th which gave him 22 RBIs on the season. Smoak hasn’t hooked up on the long ball as often as he did in 2017 as he only has 5 entering this series but the Jays are confident that the former first-round pick will return to his 2017 form where he hit 38 HRs.
New York Mets's Latest Performance :
Bullpen Filled Game
The New York Mets went from one of the best teams in the MLB to the 4th place team in the NL East as they have not been in good form as of recent as the Mets have lost 8 of their last 10 matchups. The New York Mets were not able to close out their most recent series against the Philadelphia Phillies on a good note as they lost 4-2 after a long rain delay. The New York Mets were excited to get their best pitcher back as Jacob deGrom came off the DL for the first time, but with the long rain delay and a lengthy first inning, Mickey Callaway elected to pull the starter. deGrom may have pitched a hitless first inning but he had pitched 44 pitches in the inning as he walked 3 guys and had over 20 foul balls. deGrom has been one of the best Mets pitchers this season as the 29-year-old has a team-best 3-0 record as well as a 1.83 ERA so the long-term health of the righty is important for the success of the ballclub. This prompted the Mets to go to their bullpen for the remainder of the 8 innings and after Robert Gsellman was able to give the Mets 3 shutout innings reliever Paul Sewald let the Phillies explode for 3 runs in 6th inning. Sewald has been nothing spectacular for the Mets out of the bullpen as the 2nd year pitcher has a 0-3 record with a 4.18 ERA which leaves the youngster winless in his short career as he is 0-9. The Mets were only able to squeeze out 2 runs as they had 11 hits, and 1 of those runs can be accredited to the bat of slugger Yoenis Cespedes was able to hit a solo HR in the top of the 6th inning to give him a team-high 8th HR of the season and 28th RBI.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Mets
My reason for the pick :
These are two teams who started off the season as one of the best turnaround stories as both teams were once World Series contenders but as we have seen both teams have struggled this season as the Blue Jays starting pitching has been awful and the Mets bats have gone dead. The Mets are throwing Zack Wheeler who has been much better than his stat line tells us as he had 1 slip up against the Rockies at the beginning of the May. The Mets bats have to come alive eventually as they do have a couple of guys who can put some runs on the scoreboard and with them going against one of the worst rotations in baseball I have to back the Mets. This will be a tight game as these two teams match up nicely but I am rolling with the Mets at home.
