Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants
The Giants will welcome the Rockies to AT&T Park as both teams will go face to face in a 4 game series. This will be a matchup between the NL West division. It is the first meeting this year for the two teams.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
The Rockies will continue their 9 game road trip as they now head to San Franciso to face off against the Giants. The Rockies are having a really solid season with a record of 23-19 two games behind the D-Back for the top spot in the AL West. The Rockies have had at least three home runs in seven different games this year, despite being ranked 18th in scoring, I expect the team hitting average to go up in the next few games. The Rockies had 3 different players going for homers in their previous game. If they keep this kind of batting up they might have a chance to take over the AL West division since the D-Backs lost their best offensive player in AJ Pollock the Rockies will have a chance to the seize the opportunity presented to them.
Gerardo Parra went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer. It was the fifth of the season for the veteran outfielder. The homer ups Parra’s slugging percentage to .373, and he’s hitting .271 to go along with the five homers and 10 RBIs this season, this was his best performance of the season yet as he hopes to play well when the team visits the Giants.
Nolan Arenado went 3-for-4 with an RBI as he continues to have an impressive season for the Rockies. He is now slashing at .326/.418/.593 with 23 RBIs to go with 8 homers. He is the catalyst of this Rockies offense, the Giants will have to prevent him from having a good game.
Pitching for the Rockies will be Chad Bettis. He looks to bounce back against the Giants after a rough outing in his last start against the Brewers on Friday, in which he allowed 10 hits and seven runs over five innings of work. He now has an ERA of 3.12 while striking out 30 this season.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
The Giants are coming off two impressive wins despite since dropping six in a row, in their last two games which includes a shutout the Giants were managed to score 15 total runs. The Giants seven-game homestand will continue as they will welcome the Rockies to AT&T Park. It has been an up and down season for the Giants, they now have a record of 21-21 they are on the verge of having a winning record again. The Giants are ranked 24th in batting with 161 runs scored this season. The Giants batters are looking like they have found a groove offensively again as they combined for 14 hits in their previous game.
Andrew McCutchen finally notched his 1,500th career hit, it is a sign of good things to come. His two doubles extended his hitting streak to 13, it is now the longest hitting streak in the NL. He also scored two runs, and it makes two-of-three games with multiple extra-base hits for Cutch. After a slow start to the year, McCutchen now has his season line up to .259/.374/.406 with three homers, 15 RBI, and three stolen bases.
Brandon Belt went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI. It is his 7th homer of the season. This makes back-to-back three-hit games for Belt, and he’s now slashing .297/.402/.529 with 21 RBIs. He should put on a great performance when the Rockies come to visit the bay.
Jeff Samardzija returns to the mound for the Giants. He has not pitched a full six innings since coming off the DL and has yielded five runs in each of his last two starts. The good news is the right-hander threw a season-high 101 pitches the last time out in 5 2/3 innings.
