Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Tampa Bay Rays vs Los Angeles Angels
The Angels will open up a 4 game series in an interleague matchup against the Rays at Angel Stadium. The Angels are 1st in the AL West while the Rays are 4th in the AL East. This will be the first meeting of the season for both teams.
Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :
The Rays were able to bounce back from the blowout loss against the O’s and will look to close the series out against the Royals. They have just won for the second time in their last 8 games. The Rays will now have to face a bigger task ahead of them as they will take on the red-hot Angels. The Rays are 17-22 in the tough AL East division sitting at 4th place. Coming into this series the Rays are 23rd in batting with 162 runs scored this season, the team is 9-12 on the road this season. It will be the last series on the road for the Rays before heading back home.
Matt Duffy had three hits and drove in both runs, he still remains the Rays spark plug on offense. He is batting .379/.403/.500 in 14 games since returning from the DL list. He is now on a 5 game hitting streak with 14 RBIs and 2 homers. He should have a great game when the Rays visit the Angels.
Adeiny Hechavarria came through in the 6th as he scored off a Duffy hit and avoided the tag, this tells us about how high is his baseball IQ to pull off something like that he managed to get his hand to the plate before being tagged out. The Rays will face a very difficult game when they travel to LA, everyone on the team has to show up because they don’t want another blowout loss.
Pitching for the Rays will be Blake Snell. He gave up five runs in 3 2/3 innings on Sunday in a loss to the Orioles. Snell gave up three homers in his 3 2/3 innings. He will have to be on his A game as he will go up against the elite batters in LA.
Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :
The Angels will continue their 11 games homestand as they will welcome the Rays to Angels Stadium. With the win over the Astros, the Angels are now first in the AL West with a record of 25-16 this season. The Angels are 4th in scoring they are averaging 5.05 runs per game. The Angels have a build a really solid team this season. They have quality pitchers to go along with the impressive batting. The win against the World Series champs shows us how much depth this Angels team have and it is not always about Ohtani and Mike Trout, they have other players who can get the job done as well. This Angels team will become unstoppable if they can figure out how to win consecutive series at home, right now they have a home record of 11-12.
Andrew Heaney followed up with 10K after Ohtani had 11K the previous night. It goes to show that the Angels starting pitchers are playing on another level.
Mike Trout will look to rediscover his impressive form against the Rays, earlier this month he has batted a three-run homer since then he has gone quiet not being able to pick up a single RBI after that performance. All the great players go through a slump like this but it is how you bounce back from the slump is what matters. Once he gets going again this Angels team will be unstoppable. He is among the league leaders in nearly every category, slashing .310/.448/.641 with 12 homers, 25 RBI, 33 runs scored and 8 steals.
Justin Upton went 2-for-3 with an RBI, he came through in the 6th inning giving the Angels the victory. He has hit in 12 of his last 14 games, going .328 (19 for 58) with 19 RBIs over that span. He also leads the Angels in RBIs at 32 this season with 10 homers with 41 games played. Andrelton Simmons secured his 5th steal of the season, his line is .338/.404/.497 to go along with three homers and 21 RBIs. If Trout, Upton, and Simmons play well this team is untouchable.
Pitching for the Angels will be Shohei Ohtani. He is coming off a career-high striking out 11 batters in 6 1/3 innings. He was as dominant as he’s been in more than a month, allowing just three hits and two walks across his 6 1/3 frames. He is 3-1 on the season with a 3.58 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 43/13 K/BB ratio over 32 2/3 innings.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Angels
My reason for the pick :
The Angels should be able to win comfortably at home over the Rays. Ohtani will continue his impressive pitching efforts, the Angels offense will be clicking on all cylinders. The Rays will come out with effort but in the end, they won’t be able to beat the Angels at home. The Angels will prove to be too strong for the Rays as they will take this interleague matchup victory.
