Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Texas Rangers vs Chicago White Sox
Game 1 of a 4-game set between the visiting Texas Rangers and the Chicago White Sox will take place at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday at 8:10 pm EST. The Rangers currently occupy 5th place in the AL West while the Chicago White Sox are in 5th place within the AL Central division. This will be the 1st meeting of the year amongst these two squads, however, White Sox have won 4 of the last 7 contests while taking a 3-game set on 6/30/2017.
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Texas Rangers have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-3-1. Recently, the Rangers had to endure a 4-game home series loss to the Boston Red Sox on 5-6-2018; Nonetheless, they were able to pick up a series win against the struggling Detroit Tigers at home on 5-9-2018. They followed this up with a 3-game road series loss to the defending champs Houston Astros on 5-13-2018. In all, the Rangers have been up and down all season, yet, once again, would love to turn the tide on this season with a win in the finale against the struggling White Sox.
For the season, the Rangers are averaging 3.88 runs per game (28th) with a team batting average of .229 (27th), 50 homers (9th) along with 16 stolen bases (22nd). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.84 (26th) with 318 strikeouts (23rd) along with 13 quality starts on the season (25th).
Adrian Beltre (.314 BA on 102 AB) and Nomar Mazara (.284 BA on 155 AB) have been the offensive stars for the Rangers thus far. On the other hand, Shin-Soo Choo (.245 BA on 159 AB) and Joey Gallo (.199 BA on 151 AB) have also been solid all-season long.
Cole Hamels (2-4) has pitched 51.2 innings this season while allowing 24 runs on 45 hits, 9 homers, 21 walks, and 57 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.48. Bartolo Colon (1-1) has also pitched 43.1 innings while allowing 17 runs on 35 hits, 9 homers, 4 walks, and 29 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.32.
Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :
The Chicago White Sox have had a rough go of it lately, losing 7 of their last 8 games to where the O/U was 6-2. Recently, the White Sox lost a 4-game home set to the Minnesota Twins on 5-6-2018. They followed this by losing yet another 2-game home set to the Pittsburgh Pirates on 5-9-2018. The White Sox, most recently, would lose a 3-game to the Chicago Cubs on 5-13-2018. As I stated before, the pitching staff has much to do with the Sox’ lackluster start to the 2018 campaign, and whether they can weather the storm remains to be seen; However, despite their troubles at the mound, they look to remain focused in hopes that their resilience can pay off over time (and soon).
For the season, the White Sox are averaging 3.97 runs per game (25th) with a team batting average of .242 (17th), 46 homers (15th), along with 32 stolen bases (2nd). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 5.35 (29th) with 264 strikeouts (30th) along with 13 quality starts this season (21st).
Tim Anderson (.237 BA on 139 AB), Yoan Moncada (.263 BA on 114 Ab), Yolmer Sanchez (.296 BA on 135 AB), and Jose Abreu (.284 BA on 141 AB) have been the offensive leaders for the White Sox this season. Nicky Delmonico (.231 BA on 104 AB) and Matt Davidson (.261 BA on 115 AB) have also been solid at the plate this season.
Reynaldo Lopez (0-2, 44.1 IP, 16 R, 31 H, 6 HR, 19 BB, 31 SO, 2.44 ERA) and James Shields (1-4, 48 IP, 29 R, 44 H, 4 HR, 22 BB, 28 SO, 5.44 ERA) have pitched the most innings this year for the White Sox; However, Carson Fulmer (2-3) has been solid this year at the mound as well pitching 30.1 innings while allowing 24 runs on 34 hits, 8 homers, 19 walks, and 27 strikeouts with an ERA of 6.23.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This matchup will be against two teams that have been struggling lately and need an all-important win in which to stop the bleeding. For the White Sox, they have only averaged 4 runs per game while allowing their opponent 8 runs. On the other hand, the Rangers have averaged 2 runs in their last 3 losses while allowing their opponents to average a tad over 6 per game. Simply put, these two teams are dealing with inconsistencies on the mound along with at the plate. This game will be interesting in that one team will certainly look to pick up some wins while also perfecting upon their approach at the mound.
Totals Selection: Over
My reason for the prediction :
It would be extremely difficult to attempt to try and predict a winner between two teams that have struggled so much this year; However, I will pick the over as being the play int his matchup on Thursday. The fact is that both teams having given up many runs recently. In fact, as stated, Chicago’s staff ranks 26th in the MLB in total ERA while the Rangers are 29th. In all, expect the hits and runs to be plentiful in this series, as the over should very well be the play in each contest, in my opinion.
