Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Cleveland Indians vs Houston Astros
The Houston Astros will welcome the Indians to Minute Maid as the two teams will go face to face in a 3 games series. The Astros are first in the AL West division while the Indians are first in the AL Central division. This is will be the first meeting between these two teams this season.
Cleveland Indians's Latest Performance :
The Indians bullpen must do a better job, it once was the best bullpen in the Major with a 2.55 ERA but over the 21 games after their bullpen really struggled their ERA ballooned to 9.16 ERA giving up 59 earned runs in 58 innings. This is why baseball is such an unpredictable sport one month you are doing extremely well and the next thing you know you are giving runs like wildfire. The Indians bullpen gave up 5 runs in the 7th innings alone and this is not the kind of stat you want when you are visiting the World Series Champs, it will be a long series for the Indians I guarantee you that. This season the Indians are 7-12 on the road they are still leading the weak AL Central division
Despite the bullpen struggles Brandon Guyer got the first grand slam of his career. Guyer’s two-out grand slam punctuated a four-run top of the first inning for the Indians. Despite his effort, the bullpen didn’t do their job which cost them the game. The thing about the team bullpen struggles it affects everyone on the team, the starters have done a great job putting them in a position to win then comes the bullpen to mess it all up it really hurts the flow and chemistry of the team. The Indians must find ways to fix this loophole as soon as possible. The Indians will be playing catch up the whole series against the Astros if they can’t figure things out.
Pitching for the Indians will be Corey Kluber allowed two unearned runs over seven innings as the Indians crushed the Royals 11-2 on Sunday. The two unearned runs were the only allowed by Kluber, and he struck out four without allowing a walk. His ERA is down to 2.34 to go along with six wins and an impressive 61/10 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
The Astros will be back at Minute Maid Park for a 5 game homestand beginning Friday. The homestand opens with a three-game series against the Indians. The Astros were able to gain some ground after beating their division rivals the Angels to retake the lead in the AL West division, these two teams have been going back and forth all season long. The Astros still remains the best pitching team in the Major with a team ERA of 2.48 while striking out 450 times already in 43 games played. The Astros are always reminding us that pitching wins you a World Series as they have some of the most talented pitchers in the game today. The Astros will be back home where they are 12-10 on the season.
Jose Altuve went 2-for-3 with a three-run double. His double was a big one, as it cleared the bases in the bottom of the eighth with Houston trailing 3-1 at the time. He had struggled as late just 1-for-17 coming into the game but he came through in the clutch for the division-leading Astros. He is now hitting .311/.362/.411 on the season, and he’s driven in 20 runs with two homers and two stolen bases over his first 44 games. The 2017 MVP understands that the regular season is a marathon, not a sprint so he knows where to pick and his spots and come up big when the team needs him the most.
Pitching for the Astros will be Dallas Keuchel. He struck out eight over seven scoreless innings Sunday en route to a 6-1 win over the Rangers. Keuchel scattered three hits and a walk over his seven innings, marking the first outing this year that he’s held the opposition scoreless before exiting. He has a record of 3-5 with a 3.10 ERA and 1.10 WHIP through nine starts.
