Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Detroit Tigers vs Seattle Mariners
The Mariners will welcome the Tigers to a rematch as the two team have already played each other a week ago with the Tigers winning the series 2-1. The Mariners are hoping for a different outcome the second time around.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers are coming off an impressive win over the Indians winning 3 of their last 4 games closing the gap on the Indians as they are now only two games behind, they will now hit the road for their 7 game road trip as they will play the Mariners again, the Tigers came out with a series win in their first meeting this season and hoping to duplicate the same result the second time around. The Tigers now have a record of 18-22 and a road record of 7-13. The Tigers are ranked 15th in scoring with 173 runs scored this season. The Tigers are hit with the injury bug they are playing without their key players which includes Miguel Cabrera, Leonys Martin, Castellanos. However, with so many injuries the Tigers took the opportunity to give other players chances to show what they are worth.
Niko Goodrum has been on fire lately striking 3 homers with 5 hits and 6 six RBIs and 4 runs scored over the last two games. He became the first tiger hitter with a multi-homer game. He is doing really well for the Tigers coming from the minors his slash line is .257/.325/.514 this season with 4 homers and 10 RBIs. If he keeps this kind of production up he has placed himself into the Tigers rotation. With all the injuries the Tigers are dealing with it quite a pleasant surprise to see Goodrum filling in the shoes of his injured teammates imagine when the team is all healthy again how good they can become.
Pitching for the Tigers will be Michael Fulmer. He will get his revenge after the bad performance last time he played the Mariners allowing six runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss. It was a pair of homers, a two-run homer by Ryon Healy and a three-run shot by Robinson Cano, that did most of the damage. He is now 1-3 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with the loss.
Seattle Mariners's Latest Performance :
The Mariners are hoping to bounce back from the series loss against the Tigers in their previous meeting where they lost 2-1. All the games that the Mariners lost were decided by 1 run that was how close the series was. They will have the opportunity to do it again but this time at home. The Mariners have a home record of 8-8. Coming into this series they are ranked 12th in batting with 183 runs scored this season, the problem that the Mariners are having this season is with their pitching they are 24th in the Major with a team ERA of 4.68. The Mariners this season have a record of 23-17 that place them in third of the AL West. The Mariners are just 3 wins away from claiming the top spot in the AL West.
The Mariners season took a huge blow as Robinson Cano will be suspended for 80 games for violating MLB’s Joint Drug Agreement, The suspension will keep him sidelined until mid-August and cost him upwards of $11 million in salary. Cano wouldn’t be eligible to participate in the postseason if the Mariners were to make it. The second base was batting .287/.385/.441 with four homers and 23 RBI over 39 games this season.
Kyle Seager in his last meeting against the Tigers had 3 RBIs, he went 3 for 7 in that game he is hoping to duplicate his performance at home and win back the series at home. He is slashing .242/.302/.446 with 7 homers and 24 RBIs this season. The Mariners were very unlucky the first time around as they lost in two out of three games in a very tight contest, they let the game slip away this time around the Mariners will be playing with a chip on their shoulder to avoid the same result from occurring.
Pitching for the Mariners at home will be Marco Gonzales. He is staring the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Tigers, Marco Gonzales surrendered four runs on 10 hits over six innings while taking a loss. He has an ERA of 5.31 with 41 strikeouts this season.
How Detroit Tigers & Seattle Mariners Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Mariners are 8-3 in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
Tigers are 22-50 in their last 72 games vs. a right-handed starter.
Against The Spread Selection: Seattle Mariners
My reason for the pick :
The Mariners will get their revenge on the Tigers as they will pick up the win at home, the Mariners will have a bigger chip on their shoulder, they will have made adjustments to beat off this Tigers team. The Tigers won’t be able to pull through in this game because of the lack of players that they have and Goodrum effort won’t be enough to lead the Tigers to a road victory over Mariners.
