Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :
Solid Outing Results In L
The Milwaukee Brewers have been a pleasant surprise in 2018 as they lead one of the deepest divisions in baseball, and although the season is still young the Brewers are hungry as they have not made the playoffs since 2011 which also happens to be the last time they won the division. The Milwaukee Brewers have been solid enough to maintain a lead in the NL Central as they have won 6 of their last 10 matchups but despite a good outing from their starter on 5/15, they dropped a low scoring game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-1. The Brewers elected to start Jhoulys Chacin which was his team-high 10th start of the season and the 30-year-old did not disappoint as he gave the Brewers 7 solid innings while striking out 7 guys. Chacin picked up a no-decision in this 5/15 matchup as his offense was nowhere to be found but the righty has been the best pitcher for the Brewers as he has the best record at 3-1 and one of the best ERAs with a 3.63. The Brewers have a sneaky good lineup as they host a couple of big-time hitters but the team as a whole has struggled as this ballclub ranks in the bottom 10 in runs scored this season. The offensive struggles continued in this matchup as Milwaukee was only able to record 1 run on 5 hits and the 1 run that was put on the board was scored in an untraditional way. The Brewers were able to receive an inside-the-park HR from Travis Shaw in the bottom of the 4th inning which gave him his team-high 9th HR of the season.
Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :
Berrios Back On Track
The Minnesota Twins may still be flirting around the .500 mark but they have been one of the better teams as of recent as they have won 7 of the last 10 games which has them only half a game out of first place in the AL Central. The Twins were able to start out their most recent series against the St. Louis Cardinals on a high note as they received an excellent game from the struggling Jose Berrios. Berrios has essentially moved into the ace role given the injury to Ervin Santana but his last 3 starts before his 5/15 outing were terrible as the 23-year-old went 1-2 and gave up 13 earned runs. Berrios started in his 9th start of the season on 5/15 and he looked revived as the righty was able to strike out 10 guys in 7.1 innings of work which gave him his 4th win of the season. The effective 1-2 punch for the 8th and 9th innings which includes relievers Addison Reed and Fernando Rodney continued their good season as the duo finished the final 1.2 innings without giving up a hit. The 41-year-old closer Fernando Rodney has been much better over his last 5 appearances as the right-handed hose has capitalized on saves in all of those opportunities which has him at 8 on the season. The Twins received enough offensive production from their lineup as they were able to squeeze out 4 runs on 9 hits. Bobby Wilson has played sparingly over his 11-year career as he only averages 30 games in a season but the 35-year-old catcher was able to capitalize on his latest opportunity as he hit a 2-run HR in the 5/15 matchup to back Berrios in a winning effort.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Brent Suter (2-3, 5.14 ERA) for the Milwaukee Brewers vs. Kyle Gibson (1-1, 3.43 ERA) for the Minnesota Twins.
Suter last started on 5/12 against the Rockies where he went 5 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits in a L.
Gibson last started on 5/12 against the Angels where he went 6 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits in a ND.
Minnesota and Milwaukee both rank in the bottom 10 in runs scored.
Milwaukee ranks in the top 10 in team ERA while Minnesota ranks in the bottom 10.
Against The Spread Selection: Minnesota Twins
My reason for the pick :
The Brewers and Twins are both trending upward in the recent MLB power rankings as both teams are fighting 1st place in their respective divisions and on paper, these teams match up pretty evenly in all but one category, team ERA. The Brewers rank in the top 10 in team ERA as they have received some solid outings from their pitchers which would normally prompt me to back them but the guys they have on the mound has been one of the worst pitchers for the Brewers which has me trending toward the home team. Kyle Gibson has only received a decision in 2 of his outings but the right-handed starter has been solid this season for Twins as he has a sub 4.00 ERA and if he can give this team 6 or 7 solid innings and leave it to Reed and Rodney to close out the game this team should have no problem picking up another home win.
