Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Oakland Athletics vs Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays will welcome the Oakland Athletics to Rogers Centre as both teams will go face to face in a 4 game series. Both teams have the same record 21-21, the Blue Jays are 3rd in the AL East division while the A’s are 4th in the AL West.  This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :

After A’s got beat twice by the Yankees they bounce back and beat the Red Sox to secure the series win. The A’s scored early that allowed them to set the tone for the entire game, momentum is huge in a game of baseball once you have the momentum it will be hard for a team to lose that game. The A’s will go on a brief road trip as they will take on the Blue Jays in a four-game series. The A’s this season are 10-12 on the road 12th in scoring with 191 runs scored this season. The only problem is that the A’s are playing in a very tough division 21-21 isn’t a bad record if you compare it with other divisions but they are currently sitting in 4th place in the AL West division. The A’s are 14-0 when leading after 7 innings this season and 16-0 when leading after 8.

Matt Chapman went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a walk. He has now two multi-hit games in a row, pushing his average back up to .237/.333/.441 with 19 RBIs and 7 homers. Stephen Piscotty got his 3rd homer of the season as this one was an emotional one the team came through and got the victory for him, he is now slashing .248/.304/.384 this season with 14 RBIs. Piscotty will use this performance as motivation to finish the season strong.

Pitching for the A’s on the road will be Brett Anderson. He allowed four runs in five innings in a loss to the Yankees on Sunday. He gave up eight hits, and he walked two and struck out four. He has an ERA of 8.16, and he’s given up 23 hits in just over 14 innings.

Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :

The Blues Jays are now on a 3 game losing streak as they lost to the Mets by a margin of 10 runs. The Blue Jays will be back at Rogers Centre for a 7 game homestand beginning Friday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the Athletics. The Blues Jays are 11-11 at home this season. The team pitcher starting rotation has not been any better Jamie Garcia was the next starter to struggle for the Blue Jays he was charged with six runs on six hits and three walks in just 3 2/3 innings. The lack of quality innings from the starters have been something the Blue Jays have been dealing with all season they now have an ERA of 5.69 ranks them second to last in the Major. If the Blue Jays starters don’t control the game early it makes it hard for the team to win games because the batters will always be playing from behind instead of building on a lead. The Blue Jays have now dropped back to .500 for the first time since April 1st after starting the year 17-12.

Yangervis Solarte was the only offensive spark the Blue Jays had, he went 1 for 4 and got 2 RBIs. He singled up the middle with the bases loaded in the 3rd innings, his effort was not enough. He is slashing .253/.329/474 with 25 RBIs and 9 homers this season. As well as he can play if the pitchers aren’t doing their job on the mound it makes it hard for the batter to feel motivated to step up to the plate and generate runs, the starters gave up 5 runs in the 4th inning trying to come back from that deficit is almost impossible.

Pitching for the Blue Jays will be Marco Estrada. He continues to struggle with the long ball. He has surrendered at least one home run in all but two of his eight starts this year and has allowed 10 on the season. Last season. Estrada surrendered a career-high 31. His ERA is 5.32 and striking out 34 this season.

Blue Jays are 3-8 in their last 11 home games.

Athletics are 8-2 in their last 10 vs. American League East.

Against The Spread Selection: Oakland Athletics

My reason for the pick :

The A’s should be able to carry over the momentum after securing the series over the Red Sox on to this game against the Blue Jays. The A’s to win this one on the road over the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays starting rotation continues to struggle at home. The Blue Jays will drop to 21-22 as the A’s will start to close the gap on the Mariners.
