Game 2 of a 4-game set between the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Angels will resume on Friday night at 10:07 pm EST at Angel Stadium in Los Angeles, California.  The Rays occupy the 4th place slot within the NL East while the Angels are in 2nd place within the AL West.  This will be the 1st meeting of the year amongst these two teams, however, the Rays have won 4 of the last 7 matchups while winning 2 of the last 3 games at Angel Stadium.

Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :

Recently, the Tampa Bay Rays picked up series win versus the Toronto Blue Jays in a 3-game set at home on 5-6-2018; However, were swept by the Atlanta Braves in a 2-game set on 5-9-2018 while also dropping a 4-game set against the Baltimore Orioles 3-games-to-1 on 5-13-2018 to which they played terribly.  Nonetheless, the Rays picked up a slim 2-1 road win against the lowly Kansas City Royals on 5-14-2018.

The Rays are averaging 4.21 runs per game (19th) with a team batting average of .261 (4th), 35 homers (29th), along with 26 stolen bases on the year (8th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.60 (24th) with 323 strikeouts (22nd) and 11 quality starts (30th).

Mallex Smith (.309 BA on 110 AB), Joey Wendle (.288 BA on 104 AB) Adeiny Hechavarria (.268 BA on 123 AB) spearhead the offensive attack from the plate for the O’s while C.J. Cron (.280 BA on 150 AB) and Denard Span (.250 BA on 112 AB) are also critical to the Baltimore offense.

Blake Snell (4-3) has pitched 52 innings this season and allowed 18 runs on 38 hits, 8 homers, 16 walks, and 53 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.12.  Chris Archer (2-3) has pitched 52.2 while allowing 34 runs on 59 hits, 9 homers, 15 walks, 52 strikeouts with an ERA of 5.64 for the season.  Jake Faria (3-2) has pitched 40.2 innings this year while allowing 23 runs on 34 hits, 6 homers, 17 walks, and 33 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.15.

Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :

The Angels recently picked up a win against the Mariners in a 3-game set that ended on 5-6-2018; Nonetheless, they tied 2-game set on the road versus the Rockies in their following series on 5-9-2018 while also tying a 4-game set against the Minnesota Twins on 5-13-2018.  They also were 2-1 winners over the Houston Astros in game 1 of the 3-game set on 5-14-2018.  The Angels certainly hope to carry this momentum into this game against a Twins team that they have not been able to figure out in the past.

For the season, the Angels are averaging 4.98 runs per game (6th) with a team batting average of .259 (8th), 56 homers (5th) along with 22 stolen bases (12th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.81 (11th) with 387 strikeouts (7th) with 16 quality starts on the year (17th).

Andrelton Simmons (.338 BA on 145 AB), Mike Trout (.310 BA on 145 AB), and Albert Pujols (.250 BA on 156) have been the offensive leaders for the Angels offense this season.  Justin Upton (.264 BA on 153 AB) has also been very consistent contributor to the offense as el this season.

How Tampa Bay Rays & Los Angeles Angels Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Tampa Bay Rays are 20-19 ATS while the O/U is 20-17-2.  On the other hand, the Angels are 22-19 ATS while the O/U is 21-20.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This matchup will be against two teams that are trending in different directions.  On one hand, the Angels are slowly climbing out of a rough patch that occurred recently, winning 4 of their last 6 contests while the Rays have lost 6 of their last 8 outings.  As stated, the Rays have played well against the Angels in recent matchups and would love to get some wins under their belt, starting with a victory in game 2.  On the other hand, the Angels will also like to keep their current win streak alive at home where they are only 11-12 (ML) and 9-14 (ATS) at Angel Stadium.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Angels

My reason for the pick :

While the Rays have had some major issues this season with pitching as well as hitting, they have managed to pick up some wins here and there.  Will this inconsistent play afford them an opportunity to win against the Angels?  I certainly think not.  The Angels are a very dangerous offensive team that has rebounded well from a string of losses earlier in the season.  In all, I expect the Angels to come out focused in game 2 in which to pick up an all-important victory while also making up some ground within their respective division.
