Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Baltimore Orioles vs Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox will welcome the O’s to Fenway Park as the two teams from the AL East will go face to face in a 4 game series. The Red Sox are looking to retake the Yankees for the top spot as the O’s are heading to full rebuilding mode.
Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :
The O’s will be rested as the first game against the Phillies got postponed due to the weather so they will play only one game at home before heading to Boston. The last time out the Orioles put up 17 runs in a game and have won two straight series. They are starting to pick things up although their record states otherwise the O’s are currently in the last place of the AL East with a record of 13-28 they have one of the worst road records in the Major with 3-16. With the way they are playing they hope they can turn this Boston Series into a competitive one and try to avoid a sweep. From the very beginning of the season, everyone knew that the O’s were destined to rebuild the team. You rather have one bad season then become good again than being stuck in middle for 5 years with no real improvement.
Manny Machado has to play well for O’s against the Red Sox for them to keep the series interesting, he went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI doubles and three runs scored in his last game so he is hoping he can replicate the same performance when he visits Fenway. He is one of the better batters on the Orioles he slashing .350/.431/.669 with 38 RBIs and 13 homers, he is a great trading piece.
Trey Mancini went 2-for-5 with a homer, his homer was the sixth of his season. He is now slashing .275/.333/.444 with 16 RBIs. It will be hard for the batters to duplicate what they did against the Rays because they will be facing an elite team like the Red Sox but the effort has to be there.
Pitching for the O’s will be Alex Cobb. He surrendered four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings while taking a loss. He has been pitching well of late. He’ll try to tighten up by degrees when he carries a still-rough 7.06 ERA and 1.88 WHIP.
Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :
The Red Sox will be looking to bounce back after a second straight series loss against the A’s. After dropping 2 straight games the Red Sox have now dropped to second in the AL East division. The Red Sox are the 2nd best team when it comes to scoring with 226 runs scored this season. The Red Sox haven’t found any consistency in their pitching, it was the second straight loss for the Red Sox at the start of this seven-game homestand despite being 11-6 at home this season. No need to go into panic mode if you are Red Sox fan, their main goal is to keep everyone on the team healthy because the next thing you know a player goes down and all the team effort will be wasted. This time around the Red Sox will be getting an easier matchup to go up against as the last place Orioles come to Fenway it is a great chance for the Red Sox to regain their confidence again.
Mookie Betts went for 1 for 5 in the loss but was able to pick up an RBI for the team, one bad game won’t affect how great of a season is Mookie having for the Red Sox this year. I expect him to put up a batting clinic when the O’s come to town. He is slashing .349/.426/.740 with 13 homers ties the Major and 28 RBIs with 8 stolen bases so far this season. Betts is what you call a hitting machine he just hits.
Andrew Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double but his efforts weren’t enough but he will have another opportunity to prove his worth to the team when he plays the O’s. The 23-year-old outfielder has a .266 batting average with 3 homers, 22 RBI and 28 runs scored in 39 games. He’s stolen 7 bases and has yet to be caught. He has a really great chance of becoming one of the great batters in the league he is fortunate to surround himself with great batters.
Pitching for the Red Sox will be Drew Pomeranz. He struggled with his command in his last start at Toronto, walking five and allowing five hits and three runs over four innings. In five career starts against the Orioles, he is 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA.
How Baltimore Orioles & Boston Red Sox Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Red Sox are 41-14 in their last 55 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
Orioles are 6-16 in their last 22 during game 1 of a series.
Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox
My reason for the pick :
The Red Sox should be able to win this game easily at home because my take is that the Red Sox want that top spot in the NL East division and they will have a great chance at a four-game sweep over the O’s. For the Orioles, it will be hard for them to keep up with the Red Sox although Machado should put up a great performance his only effort won’t be enough to beat the Red Sox at home.
