Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants
The Giants will welcome the Rockies to AT&T Park as the NL West division teams will face off in a four-game series. The Giants are 3rd in the standings while the Rockies are in 2nd place. Both teams are only separated by 2 games. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
The Rockies will continue their 9 game road trip, they are coming off a split against the Padres in their last series losing 5 of their last 7 games. They will now face the Giants in a 4 game series. The Rockies are having a really decent year with a record of 23-20 two games behind the D-Backs in the lost column. This 4 game series against the Giants will have a lot on the line because the outcome will affect their standings in the division, both teams will pay more attention when they play each other. The Rockies are having a hard time scoring in the last few games they were only managed to put up 13 runs in the span of 4 games and during those 4 games, the Rockies lost to the Padres in a shutout making it their 4th shutout loss of the season. They will hope to bounce back and play well against the Giants. The Rockies have an impressive road record of 16-8 this season.
Trevor Story went 1 for 3 to avoid prevent Lyles from having a no-hitter. Nevertheless, despite the last game he has been on fire for this Rockies team, he has 1o homers already this year to go along with 32 RBIs he will have a great opportunity to redeem himself when the Rockies travel to play the Giants. His line this year is .229/.322/.510. He knows that there will be a lot on the line in this series so I expect him to show up and play well on the road.
The Rockies will need Nolan Arenado to play well against the Giants, He’s now hitting .317/.407/.576 on the season with eight homers and 21 runs batted in for the Rockies in 2018. Arenado is a player that always shows up in big games.
Pitching for the Rockies will be Jon Gray has won three of his last four starts, but the loss came in his previous outing when the Brewers got to him on Sunday. Gray was charged with 10 hits and six runs in 5 1/3 innings. He did have 10 strikeouts.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
Despite losing their last home game the Giants were able to secure the series win over the Reds. The Giants will continue their 7 games homestand as they are set to play NL West rivals the Rockies in a four-game series. It has been an up and down season for the Giants they now have a record of 22-22 puts them 3rd in the NL West division. The Giants were on a 3 game winning streak prior losing to the Reds in the series finale. Rookie Andrew Suarez could not get the sweep for the Giants as he allowed 4 hits and 4 runs. The Giants went 3 for 12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. The Giants will have an opportunity to cut into the NL West positioning they are only 4 games behind the D-Backs for the top spot.
Brandon Belt went 2-for-5 with a homer. Belt’s homer is the ninth of the season, and it was a solo shot off Matt Harvey in the third inning. This makes three games in a row with homers for the slugger, and he’s now posting an impressive line of .301/.405/.562 on the season to go along with the nine homers and 23 RBI in 40 games played. The Giants will need him to play well when the Rockies come to the Bay area.
After Andrew McCutchen batted his 1,500th hits he responded by going 1 for 4 picking up an RBI. This will be a great opportunity for the former MVP to show how much does he have left in the tank. McCutchen is the heart of this Giants offense if he plays well the Giants most of the time end up winning. For the season as a whole, the veteran outfielder is slashing .252/.367/.397 with three home runs, 17 RBI and 26 runs scored across 151 at-bats.
Pitching for the Giants is Chris Stratton. He only has one quality start in his last four outings. He earned the win in his last appearance despite giving up four runs on nine hits over five innings. Stratton has posted a 7.00 ERA at AT&T Park compared to a 3.60 mark on the road. He is 4-3 on the season with an ERA of 4.88 while striking out 41 this season.
