Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Washington Nationals

The Nationals will welcome the Dodgers to Nationals Park as the two teams will play in a three-game series. The Nationals are ranked 3rd in the NL East while the Dodgers have now dropped to 4th in the NL West. It is the second meeting between the two sides as the Dodgers took the first series 2-1.

Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :

The Dodgers have now lost 5 straight games since Kershaw went down the Dodgers team never looked the same. The Dodgers now have a record of 16-25 it is their worst start since 1958. The teams that the Dodgers are facing are teams that they could have beaten a year ago with ease, this year it is the complete opposite even the Dodgers management is confident that they will sneak into the postseason but with the way they are playing it makes it very unlikely at the moment. Remember this is the same team that made it to the World Series last year. Heading into Washington won’t be an easy task for them because the Nationals have been on a tear offensively and the Dodgers have been struggling since the beginning of May, sit tight Dodgers fans the good old days should come back real soon.

Cody Bellinger got his 6th homer of the season but his effort came a bit too late as the Dodgers fell to the Marlins in a very tight contest. The 2017 Rookie Of The Year hasn’t put up the same type of numbers he did the previous year so far although he is slashing .269/.326/.474 this season to go along with 19 RBIs.

Yasmani Grandal will need to play well for the Dodgers to compete against this very strong Nationals team he is the team leader in RBIs with 24 he also has 6 homers in 37 games this season. He has forced his way into the lineup on a regular basis. he’s hitting .270/.379/.492 on the year.

Pitching for the Dodgers will be Ross Stripling. He gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Reds. He struck out seven, and he didn’t walk anyone while scattering six hits. The relief pitcher is 0 for 1 to start the season with an ERA of 2.20 while striking out 31.

Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :

The Nationals have won 13 of their last 15 games. The Nationals will be back at Nationals Park for an 8 game homestand beginning Friday. The Nationals are 10-10 when playing at home this season and they are only 2 games behind the Braves for the top spot in the NL East. Since the coach line up changes the Nationals have only dropped one game. This goes to show how much a coach can influence the team based on the line up he chooses it is not always about the players. Coaches see something that others don’t and allow his players to play by their strength. The Nationals are firing in all cylinders they have Scherzer leading the pitching duties. The National starters gave up 4 earned runs in 25 2/3 innings and became the first to win against the D-Backs.

Bryce Harper his now the National Leader in homers with 13 this season. He is now tied with Mookie Betts and Manny Machado for the major league lead in long balls. Harper is now slashing .236/.400/.543 with 13 bombs and 30 RBI. The only thing that can stop Harper now is himself.

Mark Reynold went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI, those kinds of numbers you rarely see in a debut game. He is hoping to pull off something similar when the Nationals play the Dodgers. He was the one that provided the biggest hit of the night, striking a go-ahead two-run homer off of Archie Bradley in the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie. If Reynold is able to keep this up the Nationals might have gotten themselves a steal.

Pitching for the Nationals will be Stephen Strasburg. He allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings to earn a 2-1 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday. He improves to 5-3 with a 3.28 ERA and 1.03 WHIP after nine starts. He has 68 strikeouts and 13 walks in 60 1/3 innings.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Nationals

My reason for the pick :

As hot as the Nationals are right now I don’t see any problem beating the Dodgers at home as they should be able to dominate all the way through because right now the Dodgers have no answers for their struggles. Expect the Nationals to put on a hitting clinic against the Dodgers, I am predicting a blowout win for the Nationals at home.
