Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :

Good Outing Leads To Nice W

The Milwaukee Brewers are a team that could be in postseason contention come the end of Septemeber as they have a sneaky good lineup and some solid pitchers, and their 5/16 matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks showed the contender status as they were able to receive good outings from both aspects of the game in an 8-2 win. The Brewers elected to start 25-year-old Brandon Woodruff who has seen most of his action out of the bullpen as 4 of his 7 outings are as a reliever, but his 5/16 start was effective as he went 5 innings striking out 6 guys in what was his 2nd win of the season. Woodruff’s last start was not pretty as the righty gave up 7 earned runs in 3 innings which is the main contributor to his season ERA of 6.75, but he may have found some traction after his last start. The bullpen was also very effective in Woodruff’s exit especially Jorge Lopez and Dan Jennings who gave the Brewers 5 strikeouts in 3 innings of work. The Brewers were also able to ramp up their offense as they produced 8 runs on 10 hits which is the expected contribution out of this lineup. The Brewers were able to hit 4 HRs in this game and their leader in Travis Shaw was involved in the home run parade as he hit a shot in the top of the 1st inning to give him a team-high 10th HR. Travis Shaw has been really solid for the Brewers as of recent as the 3B has hit 3 HRs in his last 7 games and with his current pace should be able to topple his season total from 2017 where he hit a career-high 31 HRs.

Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :

Minnesota Roughed Up

The Minnesota Twins have been in better form as of recent especially in the starting pitchers as the unit as a whole has struggled most of the season, but in a recent game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Twins look like they have reverted back to their old ways. The Twins elected to start their newly acquired SP Lance Lynn who has struggled in his 6th season as the righty enters this series with a 1-4 record and a 7.47 ERA, and 5/16 was a prime example of his struggles as he gave up 3 earned runs on 4 hits in only 3 innings of work against his former team in the Cardinals. The Twins were expecting Lynn to be a top end of the rotation guy as he entered this season with a career record of 72-47 but as we see that has not been the case. The Twins bullpen wasn’t much better as they had to use 6 different relievers which could be a problem come this game as the might not have any refueled arms ready to go. The combination of Taylor Rodgers, Ryan Pressly, and Phil Hughes gave the Twins only 3.2 innings of work as the trio gave up 4 earned runs. One positive for the Twins is one of their newly acquired guys was able to give them production as Logan Morrison enjoyed a good game from the plate. Morrison has struggled in 2018 as the 1B is only batting .206 but he put these struggles behind him as he went 2 for 3 from the plate with 1 HR and 2 RBIs which helped get his season total up to 5 homers on the season. Morrison may never be a .300 batter from the plate but he is a slugger who is coming off 38 HRs in 2017 which is what the Twins brought him in to do.

Against The Spread Selection: Milwaukee Brewers

My reason for the pick :

The Milwaukee Brewers have a chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and this might be their best chance yet as they are in first place of the NL Central. The Brewers have one of their best pitchers on the mound in the youngster Freddy Peralta who is coming off a debut to remember as he struck out 13 guys. The Brewers bats may have also finally awakened as they were able to record 8 runs against a top 3 pitching staff in the Arizona Diamondbacks in their latest series. The Brewers have also been a lot better on the road than Minnesota has been at home which will prove to be true in this ballgame as Milwaukee wins.

Betting trends for Milwaukee Brewers:

  • Milwaukee is 9-0 as the road favorite this season.

  • The under is 26-16-2 in all games this season.

Betting trends for Minnesota Twins:

  • Minnesota is 13-19 against teams outside the AL Central this season.

  • The over is 16-14-1 with no rest this season.
