Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Philadelphia Phillies vs St. Louis Cardinals

The Phillies will hit the road as they will visit the Cards at Busch Stadium for a four-game series. The Phillies are second in the NL East while the Cards are 3rd in the NL Central division. Both teams are in striking distance of taking over their division.

Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :

The Phillies have been on a tear lately winning 6 of their last 7 games it is the first time this season that they are 8 games over .500. They are now closing the gap on the Braves for the top spot in the NL East. It has been a great season for them so far despite only being 8-10 on the road this season. Playing against the Cards will give them the opportunity to take over the NL East. Coming into this series the Phillies are 14th in batting with 184 runs scored this season. The Phillies team has risen to become the 3rd best pitching team in the Major with a 3.38 ERA. The pitchers on the team have really tightened up the screws as they only allowed 14 runs in the span of 7 games. If the Phillies are able to figure out the problems they have on the road this team might surprise a lot of people in the future. Starter Nick Pivetta had a career-high 11 strikeouts allowing 2 hits, one run, and one walk in 7 innings of action.

Odubel Herrera extended his on-base streak to 42 games. He went 1 for 4. Herrera leads the majors with a .357 batting average while also putting up six homers, 24 RBI, and 23 runs scored through 37 games.

Cesar Hernandez tripled and homered, scoring two runs. He belted a leadoff homer in the top of the sixth inning and then tripled and scored on a Rhys Hoskins double in the top of the eighth. The dynamic second baseman is batting .267/.383/.427 with five home runs and seven stolen bases in 40 games this year.

Pitching for the Phillies will be Zach Eflin. He struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings and combined with three relievers on a shutout of the Giants on Monday. Eflin has a 0.71 ERA in two starts since replacing an injured Ben Lively in the Phillies rotation.

St. Louis Cardinals 's Latest Performance :

The Cards were able to come up with a split against the Twins after losing series against the Padres. The Cards will now return to Busch Stadium to open up a 7 game homestand starting Friday where they will be playing the Phillies in a four-game series. In their last outing, the Cards were able to put up 7 runs against the Twins, it was great to see the Cards offense starting to click again due to the coach line up change. They are currently ranked 27th when it comes to batting they only average 4.20 runs per game. This season the Cards have a decent home record of 12-7 as they will look to take advantage of that home record when the Phillies come to town.

Dexter Fowler scored 2 RBIs after missing the first game in the series. He was part of the Cards 13 hits put up by the Cardinals batters. He drove in the first two runs and reached the base four times. From the very first hit, Fowler knew that he was going to have a great game. Fowler was in a 2 for 30 skids before the RBI in the first inning. He is hoping that he can continue this offensive performance when they welcome the Phillies to Busch Stadium. He is slashing .158/.274/.293 with 5 homers and 18 RBIs this season look for his numbers to go up as the season progresses.

Matt Carpenter went 3 for 5 hitting out of the seventh spot in the Cardinals’ batting order, he doubled twice and added a single. It was a great bounce-back game after he went 0 for 4 in his first game back. It is his first three-hit game since July 18 of last season. He finally broke his 1 for 25 skids as he hopes he can build on this great performance and avoid yet another skid.

Pitching for the Cards will be Michael Wacha. He earned a tough no-decision on Saturday while allowing one run in six innings. He has an ERA of 3.09 to go along with 36 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings.

How Philadelphia Phillies & St. Louis Cardinals Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Cardinals are 5-0 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning record.

Phillies are 10-1 in their last 11 vs. National League Central.

Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals

My reason for the pick :

Two teams evenly matched, I am going with the Cards to win at home over the Phillies. The Cards have been playing really well at home with a home record of 12-7 this season while the Phillies are 8-1o when playing on the road. The Cards will be able to carry over their offensive outburst in this game, however, Wacha pitching will bring them the victory at home. The Cardinals are 6-1 in Wacha’s last 7 starts.

Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:

  • Phillies are 9-2 in their last 11 during game 2 of a series.

Betting trends for St. Louis Cardinals :

  • Cardinals are 10-3 in their last 13 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
