Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :

Back On Track

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this season as the former National League champions sit 8 games out of 1st place in a down division, but the Dodgers looked like a different team to close out their recent series against the Marlins as they received great pitching and excellent hitting. The Dodgers elected to start 30-year-old Kenta Maeda who has been hit or miss this season but his 5/17 start was one of his better ones as they right-handed starter gave the Dodgers 8 shutout innings where he struck out 8 guys in the process. Maeda is an important pitcher for the Dodgers as he has been excellent in his previous 2 years as he has gone 29-17 with a 3.85 ERA so if he can continue giving them games like this the teams’ success should trend upwards.  The Dodgers were also able to receive a solid 9th inning out of closer Kenley Jansen as he recorded every out via strikeout. Jansen has been a problem all season for the Dodgers as the right-handed reliever has blown 2 saves and has a 3.57 ERA which is well below his 2017 production where the 30-year-old converted on 41 of his 42 opportunities and had a 1.32 ERA. The Dodgers offense has also been revamped with the return of Justin Turner as the 3B missed the first 40 games with a broken wrist. Turner enjoyed a good game against the Marlins on 5/17 as the 33-year-old was able to go 3 for 4 from the plate with 2 doubles and 5 RBIs which was the production the Dodgers missed throughout the season.

Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :

Rain Killing Momentum

The Washington Nationals have been one of the best teams in the MLB as of recent as they have won 8 of their last 10 matchups, but all of the momentum they have gained may be gone as they entered this series with 2 straight rain delays. The Nationals have been troubled all season due to the injuries that they have compiled as Daniel Murphy, Ryan Zimmermann, Brian Goodwin, Adam Eaton, and Matt Wieters are all on the DL. These 5 guys are major contributors to the success of this team as in 2017 they combined for 84 HRs and 296 RBIs. The Nationals have been able to put these injuries behind them as Bryce Harper and Matt Adams have combined for 23 HRs and 55 RBIs as the duo sits 1 & 2 on the team in those respective statistics. One guy who has struggled for the Nationals is OF Michael Taylor as the 27-year-old is only batting .186 with 9 RBIs which is way below his 2017 totals where he gave the Nats 53 RBIs and a .271 batting average. The Nationals success this year has also lied in their starting rotation as the combination of Max Scherzer, Gio Gonzalez, Jeremy Hellickson, Tanner Roark, and Stephen Strasburg have put up a 2.57 ERA. The Nationals 3x Cy Young award winning has been amazing this season as Max Scherzer has a 7-1 record with 91 strikeouts which are all numbers that will have him in contention for another award. The Nationals are only 2 games out of first place which is an amazing sign for this team considering they are not healthy at all.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Nationals

My reason for the pick :

The Washington Nationals have been great as of recent as they have finally lived up to the expectations we had for this team going into this season. Alex Wood has yet to win a game as the lefty has not been great in 2018 but on top of that, he has not received much production from his offense. Strasburg has been solid throughout his career and looking at his record shows us how good he has been as he has been able to win games without the sluggers in the lineup. Strasburg is coming off one of the better outings in his career as he struck out 9 guys against one of the best teams in the MLB. Washington continues their hot streak with a home win.

Betting trends for Los Angeles Dodgers:

  • Los Angeles is 8-19 against right-handed pitchers this season.

  • The over is 10-8-1 on the road this season.

Betting trends for Washington Nationals:

  • Washington is 15-8 after a win this season.

  • The under is 16-11 against teams outside the NL East.
