Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
Late Game Troubles
The Texas Rangers have been nothing great in 2018 as they have dealt with injuries and inexperience but Jeff Banister expects his ballclub to pick up wins against other bottom-feeder teams which was not the case in their 5/17 matchup against the White Sox. The Rangers have struggled all season in the starting rotation as anyone not named Bartolo Colon has contributed a 9-18 record with a 6.00 ERA but they were able to pick up a solid game from veteran Doug Fister. Fister is only a few seasons removed from a career year where he went 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA but his 2018 production would tell us different as he entered this series with a 1-4 record with a 4.06 ERA. Fister was able to drop his struggles against the worst offense in baseball as the 34-year-old gave the Rangers 7 shutout innings without walking a single guy. The Rangers bullpen was not responsible for an earned run as they recorded 2 errors but a 4 run bottom of the 8th for the White Sox spoiled Doug Fister’s good start. The one struggle out of the Rangers bullpen came from the arm of 2nd-year reliever Jose Leclerc as he walked 3 guys while only recording 1 out. The Rangers were only able to record 2 runs on 6 hits as Joey Gallo, Jurickson Profar, and Rougned Odor went a combined 0 for 12 from the plate. Nomar Mazara was able to record his 1st triple of the season which brought in Shin-Soo Choo and helped contribute to Mazara’s good season as he leads the Rangers in RBIs with 27.
Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :
The Chicago White Sox are arguably the worst team in baseball as they currently have the worst record out of all 30 MLB teams but it is always satisfying for them to have good outings especially against other bad teams like the Texas Rangers. The White Sox were able to open the series against the Rangers on a high note as they won 4-2 behind great pitching which has become a rarity this season as they rank in the bottom 3 in most pitching categories. The White Sox elected to start veteran James Shields who has struggled in his 13th season as the right-handed starter entered his most recent start with a 5.44 ERA. Shields was not expected to be his 2011 self as he had a 2.82 ERA but they expected a little better production out of the veteran as is only 1-4. Shields was solid on 5/17 as the 36-year-old was able to go a season-high 7.1 innings where he struck out 8 guys. The White Sox were also able to blow a sigh of relief after Nate Jones was able to record his 2nd save of the season behind a scoreless 9th inning. The White Sox pitching struggles haven’t ended in the starting rotation as the bullpen has struggled as well as they have had 5 different guys blow saves this season. The White Sox offense did just enough as they were able to bring across 4 runs on 8 hits but the production of Wellington Castillo can’t be overlooked. Castillo was able to record a 2-run RBI in the bottom of the 8th which has summarized his recent success as the 31-year-old is batting .333 with 6 RBIs in his last 7 games.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Texas is 17-28, 10-12 on the road.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Mike Minor (3-2, 5.61 ERA) for the Texas Rangers vs. Reynaldo Lopez (0-3, 3.50 ERA) for the Chicago White Sox.
Minor last started on 5/15 against the Mariners where he gave up 6 earned runs on 8 hits in 3.1 innings as he recorded a ND.
Lopez last started on 5/15 against the Pirates where he went 2 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 7 hits in a L
Texas ranks outside the bottom 10 in runs scored while Chicago ranks in the bottom 3.
Texas and Chicago both rank in the bottom 5 in team ERA.
Against The Spread Selection: Chicago White Sox
My reason for the pick :
I am taking a shot with the worst team in baseball as they are throwing their best pitcher in Reynaldo Lopez who is hungry for his 1st win of the season. Lopez has yet to record a win in 2018 due to the lack of production of his offense as the youngster has done his part with a 3.50 ERA. Lopez is also coming off the worst start of his 3-year career and I expect the youngster to drop that game and rebound against the Rangers who are missing most of their offense due to injury. Minor has struggled this season which should give the young White Sox confidence that they can hit him. Chicago wins at home.
