Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Colorado Rockies vs Los Angeles Dodgers

Game 1 of a 3-game series between the visiting Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers will take place on Monday, 5-21-2018, at 10:10 pm EST, at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.  The Rockies occupy 2nd place in the NL West while the Dodgers are currently in last place in the division.  This set will be the 1st matchup of the year for these two teams, however, the Rockies have won 9 of the last 17 meetings while taking 5 of the last 9 games at Dodger Stadium.

Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :

The Colorado Rockies are winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-3-1.  Recently, the Rockies tied a 2-game set versus the Los Angeles Angels at home on 5-9-2018; Nonetheless, they would then go on to lose a 4-game home set versus the Milwaukee Brewers on 5-13-2018.  The Rockies came out strong in game 1 of a 2-game road set versus the San Diego Padres on Monday, getting the 6-4 victory; However, lost game 2 on 5-15-2018 by a score of 4-0.  They would, however, win game 1 of a 4-game road set versus the San Francisco Giants on 5-17-2018 by a score of 5-3.

For the season, the Rockies are averaging 4.00 runs per game (24th) with a team batting average of .228 (29th), 56 homers (7th), along with 27 stolen bases (7th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.29 (17th) with 381 strikeouts (12th), along with 21 quality starts (6th).

Nolan Arenado (.319 BA on 144 AB), DJ LeMahieu (.279 BA on 129 AB), Charlie Blackmon (.267 BA on 146 AB), and Trevor Story (.233 BA on 159 AB) have been the leading offensive superstars for the Colorado Rockies thus far.

Chad Betts (4-1) has pitched 55 innings while allowing 20 runs on 47 hits, 6 homers, 19 walks, and 35 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.27 while Jon Gray (4-5) has pitched 52 innings while allowing 29 runs on 56 hits, 6 homers, 12 walks, and 59 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.85.  Tyler Anderson (3-1) has also pitched 44 innings while allowing 24 runs on 41 hits, 7 homers, 18 walks, and 43 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.30.

Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :

The Dodgers come into this matchup losers of 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3.  Recently, after tying a 2-game set at home versus the Arizona Diamondbacks on 5-9-2018, the Dodgers preceded to lose a 4-game set to the Cincinnati Reds on 5-13-2018 while also dropping game a 3-game road series to the Marlins on 5-17-2018.  The Dodgers have been befallen by injuries to their pitching staff as well as to their batting lineup, yet, hope to somehow pick up some wins against the reeling Rockies.

The Dodgers average 4.30 runs per game (16th) with a team batting average of .239 (21st), 40 homers (24th), along with 12 stolen bases (28th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.90 (12th) with 422 strikeouts (4th) along with 17 quality starts (18th).

Yasmani Grandal (.278 BA on 126 AB), Cody Bellinger (.265 BA on 162 AB), and Corey Seager (.267 BA on 101 AB) have been the leaders offensively for the Dodgers this season.  Chris Taylor (.246 BA on 179 AB) has also been pivotal to the Dodger’s offensive attack.

How Colorado Rockies & Los Angeles Dodgers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Rockies are 24-20 ATS while the O/U is 16-25-3.  On the other hand, the Dodgers are 14-29 ATS while the O/U is 21-21-1.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Both these teams are desperately looking for a win.  The Rockies are attempting to climb their way out of a mini-slump recently, while the Dodgers have had to undergo numerous losing bouts lately in dropping 9 of their last 11 games.  With this matchup on Monday being a division contest, expect both teams to be locked in as the Rockies hope to maintain their standing by picking up yet another win while the Dodgers hope to somehow turn their season around against a team that they have struggled to figure out in the past.

Against The Spread Selection: Colorado Rockies

My reason for the pick :

Again, the Dodgers have had to deal with many issues this season from their lack of offensive production to the injuries to their lineup as well as to their pitching staff.  In all, they simply have not performed well this season at all.  The Rockies have had a decent season, yet, have been playing a bit inconsistent recently in losing 5 of their last 8 games.  I have confidence that the Rockies will get back on track against a Dodger team that seemingly cannot get it right at either at home or on the road.
