Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :
The Arizona Diamondbacks have won 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2. Recently, after tying a 2-game road set versus the Dodgers on 5-9-2018, the Brewers followed this series up with an unfortunate 4-game home sweep at the hands of the Washington Nationals on 5-13-2018 while also losing a 3-game home set versus the Milwaukee Brewers on 5-15-2018. They would take their sluggish play into their next series against the Minnesota Twins on the road and would lose the 3-game set on 5-20-2018.
For the season, the D’backs average 3.83 runs per game (29th) with a team batting average of .219 (30th), 46 homers (21st) along with 31 stolen bases (7th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.33 (3rd) with 411 strikeouts (8th) along with 20 quality starts for the season (9th).
David Peralta (.264 BA on 159 AB) and A.J. Pollock (.293 BA on 150 AB) have been the offensive stars for the Diamondbacks thus far. Paul Goldschmidt (.205 BA on 166 AB) and Nick Ahmed (.215 BA on 144 AB) have also been solid offensively for Arizona this season.
Patrick Corbin (4-1, 62.1 IP, 18 R, 39 H, 7 HR, 18 BB, 81 SO, 2.60 ERA) and Zack Greinke (3-2, 54.2 IP, 21 R, 48 H, 7 HR, 7 BB, 58 SO, 3.46 ERA) have pitched the most innings for the D’backs this season while Zack Godley (4-3, 52.1 IP, 25 R, 51 H, 6 HR, 23 BB, 49 SO, 3.78 ERA) has also been solid on the mound thus far.
Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :
The Brewers have won 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2. Recently, they suffered a 3-game home series loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates on 5-6-2018. They would then tie a 2-game set versus the Cleveland Indians on 5-9-2018 while winning a 4-game road set versus the Colorado Rockies on 5-13-2018. The Brewers would go on to not only win a 3-game road set against the Arizona Diamondbacks on 5-16-2018, but, also picking up a 3-game road series win against the hot Minnesota Twins on 5-20-2018.
For the season, the Brewers are averaging 4.04 runs per game (23rd) with a team batting average of .244 (15th), 57 homers (9th), and 31 stolen bases on the year (9th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.47 (4th) with 399 strikeouts (14th), along with 13 quality starts (29th).
Lorenzo Cain (.270 BA on 159 AB), Ryan Braun (.222 BA on 126 AB), Travis Shaw (.244 BA on 168 AB), and Domingo Santana (.254 BA on 142 AB) have been the most consistent offensive weapons for the Brewers this season.
Chase Anderson (3-3, 45.1 IP, 20 R, 36 H, 10 HR, 16 BB, 30 SO, 3.97 ERA) and Jhoulys Chacin (3-1, 52 IP, 24 R, 46 H, 5 HR, 23 BB, 36 SO, 3.63 ERA) have been the bright spots for this Brewer pitching staff. Zack Davies (2-3, 34 IP, 17 R, 31 H, 5 HR, 12 BB, 25 SO, 4.24 ERA) has also been solid on the mound this season for Milwaukee.
How Arizona Diamondbacks & Milwaukee Brewers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Diamondbacks are 22-24 ATS while the O/U is 20-24-2. On the other hand, the Brewers are 28-19 ATS while the O/U is 18-27-2.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This matchup will be against two teams that continue to trend in different directions. On one hand, after being consistent for much of the season, Arizona has lost 10 of their last 11 games and are desperately in need of a win. On the other hand, the Brewers have won 5 of their last 7 games and would love nothing more than to pick up a huge win in game two against a team that they have played very well against in recent matchups. Once again, it will be interesting to see how these teams either approach their recent success, or, respond to their atrocious play recently.
Against The Spread Selection: Milwaukee Brewers
My reason for the pick :
As the Diamondbacks continue to slump, I would have to pick the Brewers to win the finale of this series on Wednesday. In other words, Arizona has shown nothing recently that would allow me to want to consider backing them in any capacity. With that being said, I expect the Brewers to continue their stellar play and pick up yet another win and series victory against a severely reeling Diamondbacks squad that simply cannot find the button in which to push in order to function at the level on which they were performing only a few short weeks ago.
