Detroit Tigers vs Minnesota Twins
This game will between teams from the AL Central division as the Twins will face off against the Tigers in a 3 game series. This will be their first meeting this season. With the Royals and the White Sox done for the season that leaves the top 3 of the AL Central wide open.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers are coming off a very tough loss as the bullpen turned a 2-0 lead with one out in the bottom of the 9th giving the Tigers their 3rd loss in the 4 game series. This goes to show that to win a baseball game you need a collective effort from everyone, Liriano was superb in this game but still went home with a no-decision so all his effort in this game was wasted he allowed just one hit till the 8th inning. The Tigers are glad this is still early on in the season and it won’t mean as much but it will be a good learning experience for the team not to blow a 2 run lead heading into the 9th innings. This is what makes baseball exciting because you will never know what can come next, one pitch might determine the outcome of the game.
John Hicks hit a two-run home run, his fifth of the season in 26 games. He is a catcher but has filled in and filled in admirably at first base for the Tigers in Miguel Cabrera’s absence, batting .302/.352/.542 on the year. Everyone on the team has to ready because you never know what is going to happen.
Nicholas Castellanos needs to play well for the Tigers, he is the team leader in RBIs this season with 24. He went 2 for 5 with one run scored. He’s now got his batting line up to .312/.364/.482 and he’s driven in 24 runs this season.
Pitching for the Tigers will be Michael Fulmer. After giving up nine earned runs in 10 2/3 innings of his last two starts, both vs. the Mariners, Fulmer faces a team he hasn’t lost to in 3 career starts. The last time he played the Twins he allowed two runs in 7 innings with 7 K’s.
Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :
The Twins are coming off a series loss against the Brewers as they will cap off their 9 games homestand against the Tigers in a 3 game series. The Twins are 2nd in the AL Central division with a record of 19-23, they are ranked 23rd in the Major when it comes to pitching with an ERA of 4.46 this season but they are having a tough time generating runs the Twins only average 4.21 runs per game. In their last 3 games, the Twins scored 10 runs in total. Although Jake Odorizzi came through big time for the Twins in the rubber game. He struck out 10 and allowing only 5 hits in 5 2/3 innings. He ended the game with a no-decision. Playing against the Tigers will be the Twins biggest challenge yet because it will determine their position in the AL Central division with a loss they will fall into 3rd place.
Logan Morrison hit a bases-loaded, go-ahead two-run single in the 8th inning. With two on and one out, the Brewers opted to intentionally walk Eduardo Escobar to bring up Morrison to face lefty reliever Boone Logan with the bases loaded. He then hit a single off the right-field wall to plate two. Morrison now has 17 RBI to go with a .211/.318/.376 line.
Max Kepler had an RBI single and a run scored. He plated the first run of the game with an RBI single in the fifth inning. He also walked twice in the contest, and one of those walks turned into a run in the decisive eighth inning. Kepler is having another productive year in the Twins lineup, batting .250/.337/.466 with six homers, 19 RBI and 19 runs scored in 42 games. He will be the focal point of the Twins offense when the Tigers come to town.
Pitching for the Twins will be Kyle Gibson. He was roughed up by the Brewers last time out. The right-hander surrendered five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings and took the loss to fall to 1-2, while his ERA stands at 3.96.
