The Texas Rangers are set to return back to Globe Life Park in Arlington where they will close out a 3 game home series against American League foe in the New York Yankees, first pitch is slated for 7:05 PM ET. After this matchup, these two teams will not meet again until 8/9 when the Texas Rangers travel to New York for a 4 game series.
New York Yankees's Latest Performance :
The New York Yankees were able to close up their recent series against the Kansas City Royals on a high note as they won 10-1 which secured their 8th straight series win and has given the Yankees the best record in the MLB. The Yankees are hoping that their starter Sonny Gray is officially back on the right track as the right-handed starter has been shaky ever since coming over from Oakland in a trade last season. Sonny Gray entered his 9th start of the season with a 2-3 record and a 6.39 ERA but the 28-year-old may be back in business after he went 8 innings where he only gave up 1 earned run in what was his 3rd win of the season. The Yankees were also able to see a turnaround game from another struggling pitcher as they let the former National starter A.J. Cole close out the 9th inning where he struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. A.J. Cole has been much better since coming over to New York from Washington as the 26-year-old has pitched in 5 shutout innings which is much improved from his 13.06 ERA with the Nats. The Yankees were also very good on the hitting end of things as they were able to score 10 runs on 14 hits. Tyler Austin led the Yankees as the 26-year-old went 2 for 4 from the plate with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs in what was his 7th and 8th HRs of the season. Tyler Austin has not able to consistently crack the lineup through his first 3 seasons as the most games he has appeared in is 31 games due to injuries and suspension. Tyler Austin could become a vital piece to the Yankees postseason run especially if they can insert him into a full-time 1B role where they lack a consistent bat in that position.
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Texas Rangers may be the worst team in the AL West but they have one of the better rosters out of the bottom-feeder teams, but after their recent series against the Chicago White Sox we have now seen why these team has struggled as they dropped 3 out of the 4 games against the worst team in baseball. The Texas Rangers were not able to enter this series on the right foot as they were shutout 3-0 which is not good in terms of offense. The Rangers elected to start former first-round pick Mike Minor who has not been very good through his first 9 starts. Minor may have earned a loss in this 5/20 matchup as he gave up 3 earned runs in his 6 innings but on the positive end of things, he was able to strikeout 9 guys which is a season-best for the 30-year-old. The Rangers were not expecting Minor to come over and be a Cy Young award winner but in the win-loss department he is around his career average of .500 with a 3-3 record, but his struggles have lied in the run department as the left-handed starter has a 5.59 ERA which is more than double of his 2017 ERA of 2.55. The bullpen was solid in the exit of Minor as the combination of Tony Barnette, Alex Claudio, and Chris Martin only gave up 2 hits in the final 3 innings. The bats were what ultimately killed the Rangers from securing a win as they were only able to squeeze out 2 hits against one of the worst pitching teams in the MLB. Shin-Soo Chin was able to record one of the 2 hits for the Rangers as the veteran has been one of the only guys to consistently deliver for Texas all season.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees
My reason for the pick :
Can you really trust the Texas Rangers to win any game especially after dropping 3 of their 4 games against the Chicago White Sox? I know I cant, and it doesn’t help that they are going up against the best team in baseball. CC got roughed up against the Royals but other than his last outing the left-handed veteran has been fairly solid for the Yankees this season. Fister may have had a good outing last go around but it was against the White Sox who don’t pose a threat to most team. The Yankees bats are 10x better than the White Sox which is a recipe for disaster as the Yankees should have no problem outscoring the Rangers in this matchup. New York wins on the road.
