The finale of a 2-game set between the visiting San Francisco Giants and the Houston Astros will begin on Tuesday night at 8:10 pm EST, at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.  The Giants are 3rd place in the NL West while the Houston Astros occupy 1st place within the AL West division.  This will be the 1st meeting of the year amongst these two squads as each will be looking to obtain an all-important win.

San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :

The San Francisco Giants come into this matchup losers of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-1-1.  Recently, the Giants lost a 3-game set to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on 5-13-2018; However, come out strong in their following series against the Reds and picked up the 3-game home series victory on 5-16-2018.  Nonetheless, the Giants came out flat at home against the Colorado Rockies in a 3-game set as they lost both game 1 and game 2 by a combined score of 11-4.  They did, however, win the final two games to tie the series on 5-20-2018.

For the season, the Giants are averaging 4.19 runs per game (20th) with a team batting average of .261 (4th), 50 homers (20th) along with 22 stolen bases (17th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.33 (20th) with 363 strikeouts (25th) along with 17 quality starts (20th).

Brandon Belt (.312 BA on 160 AB) and Buster Posey (.306 BA on 144 AB) have been the most consistent hitters for the Giants this year.  Evan Longoria (.256 BA on 176 AB) has also been solid at the plate for San Francisco.

Chris Stratton (5-3, 53 IP, 31 R, 53 H, 6 HR, 24 BB, 42 SO, 4.92 ERA) has been consistent on the mound for the Giants this season.  On the other hand, Ty Blach (3-4, 57.2 IP, 32 R, 67 H, 4 HR, 19 BB, 27 SO, 4.37 ERA) has also been solid for the Giants in 2018.

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Houston Astros have won 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-3-1.  Recently, the Astros swept the Oakland A’s in a 3-game road set on 5-9-2018.  The Champs also went on to win a 3-game home series versus the Texas Rangers on 5-13-2018 while also winning a 3-game set versus the dangerous Los Angeles Angels on 5-16-2018.  In addition, Houston also won a 3-game home series versus the Cleveland Indians on 5-20-2018.

For the season, Houston is averaging 4.60 runs per game (11th) with a team batting average of .254 (11th), 52 homers (14th), along with 18 stolen bases on the year (23rd).  Their pitching staff ranks lowest in MLB stats with an ERA of 2.43 (1st) with 494 strikeouts (1st) along with 36 quality starts (1st).

Jose Altuve (.316 BA on 193 AB), Carlos Correa (.274 BA on 164 AB), Josh Reddick (227 BA on 172 AB), and Alex Bregman (.274 BA on 174 AB) has spearheaded the Astros offense throughout the year.  George Springer (.292 BA on 185 AB) has also been a solid contributor for the Astros at the plate.

Charlie Morton (6-0) has been consistent this year for Houston pitching 55.2 innings while allowing only 13 runs on 34 hits, 7 homers, 18 walks, and 70 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.94 while Justin Verlander (5-2) has pitched 68.2 innings thus far while allowing 10 runs on 35 hits, 4 homers, 14 walks, and 84 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.05.  Lance McCullers (6-2) has also been solid as he has pitched 59 innings while allowing 22 runs on 44 hits, 3 homers, 23 walks, 66 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.20.

How San Francisco Giants & Houston Astros Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Houston Astros are 26-22 ATS while the O/U is 15-30-3.  On the other hand, the Giants are 28-20 ATS while the O/U is 25-21-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Here you have two teams that are coming off a set of wins with the Giants winning 2 in a row and the Astros having won 6 of their last 8 contests, overall.  Houston has suddenly weathered the storm that resulted from a set of loss recently while the Giants continue to remain competitive despite their inability to score at times combined with their inconsistencies on the mound.  This matchup will be interesting in that the Giants desperately need wins in which to gain more confidence while the Astros look to regain their form from earlier in the season to stay atop the AL West.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

The Giants have been a decent team at AT&T Park (14-10 (ML), however, they have performed less than averaged on the road (10-14 ML).  The Astros have played well at home this season having a record of 14-11 ML at Minute Maid Park and having won 4 of their last 5 home games, overall.  In all, the Giants showed lots of heart by coming back from a 2-0 series deficit in their last series against the Rockies to tie the 4-game set on last Sunday; However, the Houston Astros are a different team, altogether.  I will pick the Astros to once again put the smack down on the inconsistent Giants as they will slowly take advantage of San Francisco’s less than stellar pitching staff to once again pick up the win on Wednesday.
