NY Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers

Game 1 of a 4-game set against the NY Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers will take place on Thursday night at Miller Field in Milwaukee, at 8:10 pm EST.  the Mets occupy 3rd place in the NL East while the Brewers are in 1st place in the NL Central.  This will be the 2nd meeting of the year amongst these two squads with the Mets taking 2 of 3 in a 3-game home set on 4-15-2018.

NY Mets's Latest Performance :

The New York Mets have won 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3.  Recently, the Mets tied a 3-game road set versus the Phillies, with game 2 being postponed due to weather conditions.  They would move on from this series by tying yet another series with the Toronto Blue Jays in a 2-game set on 5-16-2018.  The Mets would follow that up with a 3-game home sweep of the slumping Arizona Diamondbacks on 5-20-2018.  They continued their home stand by picking up a win versus the Marlins in game 1 of a 3-game set on 5-21-2018.

For the season, the Mets are averaging 4.19 (20th) with a team batting average of .238 (21st), 44 homers (26th), along with 18 stolen bases (24th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.4 (13th) with 412 strikeouts (11th) along with 15 quality starts on the season (24th).

Asdrubal Cabrera (.325 BA on 163 AB), Todd Frazier (.237 BA on 114 AB), Yoenis Cespedes (.255 BA on 137 AB), and Jay Bruce (.234 BA on 141 AB) have been the offensive stars for the Mets this season.  Amed Rosario (.250 BA on 136 AB) has also been a critical component to the Mets’ scoring attack.

Jacob deGrom (4-0, 51.1 IP, 11 R, 38 H, 2 HR, 14 BB, 69 SO, 1.75 ERA) and Noah Syndergaard (4-1, 58.2 IP, 22 R, 57 H, 4 HR, 13 BB, 68 SO, 2.91 ERA) are the bright spots for their talented pitching staff.

Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :

The Brewers have won 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  Recently, they suffered a 3-game home series loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates on 5-6-2018.  They would then tie a 2-game set versus the Cleveland Indians on 5-9-2018 while winning a 4-game road set versus the Colorado Rockies on 5-13-2018.  The Brewers would go on to not only win a 3-game road set against the Arizona Diamondbacks on 5-16-2018, but, also picking up a 3-game road series win against the hot Minnesota Twins on 5-20-2018.  They followed this series up with a 4-2 game 1 win over the slumping Arizona Diamondbacks on 5-21-2018 in the start of a 3-game set.

For the season, the Brewers are averaging 4.04 runs per game (21st) with a team batting average of .244 (15th), 60 homers (8th), and 32 stolen bases on the year (8th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.44 (5th) with 405 strikeouts (13th), along with 14 quality starts (26th).

Chase Anderson (4-3, 51.1 IP, 22 R, 39 H, 11 HR, 19 BB, 33 SO, 3.86 ERA) and Jhoulys Chacin (3-1, 52 IP, 24 R, 46 H, 5 HR, 23 BB, 36 SO, 3.63 ERA) have been the bright spots for this Brewer pitching staff this season.

How NY Mets & Milwaukee Brewers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Mets are 22-21 ATS while the O/U is 20-22-1.  On the other hand, the Brewers are 29-19 ATS while the O/U is 18-28-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an interesting matchup in that you have two teams who have been on fire lately who will be looking to add to their current winning streak(s) along with set the tone of the series with a game 1 victory.  Steven Matz (1-3) will get the start for the Mets on Thursday as he looks to rebound after a terrible outing on the mound against the Diamondbacks 4 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk, 2 homers, and 2 strikeouts in a 5-4 home win on 5-19-2018.  Expect both teams to fight hard to maintain their current momentum.

Against The Spread Selection: Milwaukee Brewers

My reason for the pick :

While the Mets have seemingly rebounded for a rough patch of losses recently, I continue to feel great about this Milwaukee Brewers team.  In all, they continue to get solid performances from their pitching staff along with timely hits from their lineup.  This is not to discount the Mets who have also had solid outings from their pitching staff as well while their lineup has been responsible for the team averaging over 5 runs per game in their last 5 wins.  Nonetheless, the Brewers will defend its number 1 standing in the NL Central by picking up a hard-fought win in game 1.
