Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :
Bats Go Silent
The Los Angeles Angels are in one of the deepest divisions in baseball as the AL West host 3 potential playoff teams but the Angels have blinked as they have lost 7 of their last 10 games and find themselves in 3rd place after consecutive weeks as the leader. The Los Angeles Angels continued their slumping stretch to open their previous series against the Toronto Blue Jays as the bats went absolutely silent in their 5/22 matchup. The Angels high powered lineup was only able to score 3 runs on 4 hits as major contributors like Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Zack Cozart went a combined 0 for 9 from the plate. As the trio previously mentioned went silent in this matchup one guy who gave the Angels a glimmer of hope is veteran Ian Kinsler who was able to record his 6th RBI of the season. Kinsler has been in the leadoff spot all season for the Angels which shows the hope that the Angels have invested in the 35-year-old as the veteran is only batting .125 in his last 7 games. The pitching for the Angels was not terrible even though the Blue Jays put 5 runs on the board as starter Garrett Richards was the lone pitcher accredited with an earned run. Richards was able to give the Angels 5 solid innings where aside from the 1 run that came across was pretty good as he struck out 5 batters. The bullpen was really good in Richards exit as the combination of Noe Ramirez and Cam Bedrosian went the remaining 3 innings without giving up a single hit. The Angels as we saw were solid on the pitching end of things but the bats were unable to keep pace with Richards and staff which led to yet another loss.
New York Yankees's Latest Performance :
The New York Yankees are way above schedule in what was supposed to be a period of rebuilding as they currently sit at the top of the MLB in terms of record and also host one of the best rosters in baseball with a solid mix of superstars and young guys. One of those young guys includes Domingo German who exploded onto the scene in his first career start back on 5/6 where the rookie pitched a no-hitter in the 6 innings he contributed. Ever since German’s first career start he has received 2 more starts with his most recent lying on 5/22 against the Texas Rangers. The rookie right-handed starter was roughed up in only his 3rd career start as he gave up 6 earned runs in 3.2 innings of work, and dating back to his last 8.2 innings he has given up a combined 12 runs. The bullpen was fairly solid in patching the holes that German left the Yankees to fix as the combination of A.J. Cole, Chasen Shreve, and Giovanny Gallegos went the remaining 4.1 innings with only giving up 2 hits. Giovanny Gallegos is yet another example of a young solid arm as the reliever is only a rookie but showed no signs of it in his first appearance of 2018 as he went 2 innings. The Yankees bats were able to get going in the later part of the game as they scored 3 of their 4 runs in the 7th & 8th innings. Yankees rookie Gleyber Torres has shown why he was one of the most coveted prospects entering the 2018 season as he was able to hit his 7th HR of the season in the top of the 8th inning. Torres has been able to consistently find himself in the starting lineup as the 21-year-old has 7 HRs and a .330 batting average through his first 26 games.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees
My reason for the pick :
The Yankees are returning back to their home stadium where they have been so good this season while the slumping Angels have to still recover from their recent trip from Canada. The Yankees have their best pitcher in Luis Severino on the mound who has not only looked like an all-star but a Cy Young award winner and with a slumping team like the Angels, he has a perfect opportunity on adding to his campaign. The Yankees also have the best bats in baseball and we have seen what this team can do at home and even on the road. The Yankees were able to hit 14 HRs in only a 3 game span on their recent road stand and nothing is pointing to the Yanks failing in this one.
