Atlanta Braves vs Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are set to return back to Fenway Park for game 2 of their 3 game home series against National League foe in the Atlanta Braves as this is an interleague matchup, first pitch is slated for 1:05 PM ET. After this series, these two teams will meet again on 9/3 when Boston travels down to Atlanta for another 3 game set.
Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :
The Atlanta Braves have shown that they are ready to contend for a title in 2018 rather than 2022 as they have jumped out to an early 1st place lead but the one thing that has harmed this ballclub is inconsistency as one moment they are scoring 10 runs and another day they are scoring 0. The Atlanta Braves were not able to close out their recent series against the Philadelphia Phillies on a high note as they were held scoreless in a low scoring affair. The Atlanta Braves elected to start rookie Luiz Gohara who besides the 2 runs he gave up was pretty solid as the left-handed starter struck out 6 guys in only 4 innings of work. Gohara may have started his 1st game of 2018 but the youngster is no stranger to a starting role as the 21-year-old went 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA in 5 starts last season. The bullpen was not much of a help in preserving a decent outing, especially rookie Shane Carle who has been terrific this season. Carle played all out of sorts as the right-handed arm out of the bullpen gave up 1 earned runs on 3 hits in only 1.2 innings of work. The Braves are hoping that this bad outing from Carle is just a fluke as the rookie has been one of the best relievers all season as he has a 1.57 ERA in 28.2 innings of work. The bats for the Atlanta Braves were nowhere to be found and the young guys who have been so good this season endured a bad game. The combination of Ozzie Albies, Robert Acuna, and Dansby Swanson went 1 for 12 from the plate which is very unlike the young guys. The former first-overall pick Dansby Swanson has not been able to find his stroke as of recent as the SS is only batting .178 in his last 15 games.
Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :
Good Outing From Price
The Boston Red Sox have officially taken over the reigns as the best team in baseball as they are now 1.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees in terms of best record. The Boston Red Sox were able to continue their hot start to the season behind their typical outing as they received a great outing from the pitching staff, specifically the starter. David Price has been hit or miss this season as the former first-overall pick has a 4-4 record and a 4.08 ERA, but his 5/23 start was one of his best ones yet. Price was dominant against the Tampa Bay Rays as the left-handed pitcher struck out 9 guys in the 6 innings he appeared in. The bullpen was also able to preserve Price’s good outing as the combination of Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly, and Craig Krimbel gave the Sox 3 hitless innings of baseball as the team held the Rays to only 3 hits. Joe Kelly has easily been the best reliever out of the Boston bullpen as the right-handed gunslinger is 3-0 and has a 1.99 ERA and not to mention has seen the most action out of the pen as he has 22 appearances. The Red Sox were able to rally late with their bats as they put up 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning which propelled them to a 4-1 win. Xander Bogaerts was able to get the run party going as the young SS hit an RBI double in what was his 25th RBI of the season. The Red Sox have shown different ways of winning ball games and this 5/23 matchup is a prime example of that as the top 4 guys in the batting order went hitless. Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi may have failed to record a hit but the 1-2 duo walked a combined 5 times.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Julio Teheran (4-1, 4.17 ERA) for the Atlanta Braves vs. Drew Pomeranz (1-2, 5.97 ERA) for the Boston Red Sox.
Teheran last started on 5/20 against the Marlins where he went 5 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 7 hits in a ND.
Pomeranz last stared on 5/18 against the Orioles where he went 4 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits in a L.

Boston and Atlanta both rank in the top 10 in team ERA.
Against The Spread Selection: Atlanta Braves
My reason for the pick :
The Atlanta Braves have some of the best young players in the game and with them growing up with the Red Sox being the best team over the years, they have dreamed about playing in Fenway Park. The young guys finally have a chance to shine in the funky ballpark and they hold a major advantage on the mound as Teheran has been fairly solid this season. Teheran got roughed up by the Marlins in his recent outing which is not a good sight but to the advantage of the Braves Pomeranz is coming off arguably the worst outing against an even worse team in the Baltimore Orioles. Pomeranz has looked terrible since coming off injury and I cant expect him to just bounce back against a top 3 offense. Atlanta steals game 2.
