Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Los Angeles Angels vs New York Yankees
The Yankees will welcome back the Angels to Yankee Stadium for game number 2 in a three-game series. The Yankees will be looking to retake the Red Sox in the standings while the Angels are eyeing the second place from the Mariners.
Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :
The Angels were able to blow out the Blue Jays in the rubber game giving them the series win. The Angels have now scored five or more runs in back to back games. They are now only 2 games behind the Mariners for the 2nd place in the AL West division. Coming into this series the Angels are ranked 7th in batting with 235 runs scored this season. Going up against the Yankees will be the biggest test for the Angels this season because it will tell the Angels where they are as a team and what to work on in order to contend for a World Series. The Angels got all the pieces to contend for a World Series but they haven’t really been pushed to the limit just yet. Playing a great team like the Yankees will allow them to adjust to their mistakes and it will help the Angels season in the long run. The Angels are 16-5 on the road this season, the highest road winning percentage this season.
Mike Trout ripped notched his 15th homer of the season. 15 homers in 50 games put Trout almost on pace for 50 homers this season. He also walked for a league-high 46th time today, though since he reached a mere twice in five plate appearances. He will be ready for the Yankees series he will be a handful for them as well.
Shohei Ohtani doubled twice, walked twice and scored twice. He will get the opportunity to hit more as he has already been included in the starting rotation 3 times in a row. He has been one of the most surprising players this season and he is hoping to bring Sho-time to New York.
Pitching for the Angels will be Garrett Richards. He will start in place of Shohei Ohtani, who was pushed back for workload management reasons. Richards gave up one earned run over five innings in his last start Tuesday vs. Toronto. He is 0-4 with an 8.10 ERA in six appearances vs. New York.
New York Yankees's Latest Performance :
The Yankees will begin a 6 game homestand, they are 18-7 when playing at home this season. The Yankees have now dropped into the second position of the AL East division with the Red Sox having a 3 game cushion. It won’t be an easy series for the Yankees because the Angels will be focused because every team would love to have the opportunity to beat the Yankees at home considering how well they are batting this season at times the Yankees seems unstoppable but then some games their starting pitcher has a bad game and that might cost them the game. Great teams like the Yankees view the regular season like a warmup because they know they have the talent to contend for the World Series they just have to play well when needed because the last thing a team like the Yankees want is someone getting injured and the team is not fully healthy when the postseason arrives.
Giancarlo Stanton is having himself a year, he has now got 11 homers and 28 RBIs on the season. He has definitely played better after a bad start to the year now he is picking up where he left off. Stanton now has his line up to .262/.341/.508. It was fairly obvious he was going to improve on his struggles over the first two weeks, but it’s still nice to see him perform like one of the best outfielders in baseball again. The Yankees batting rotation is loaded if one of the players have a great game it is likely to be over for the opposing team.
Pitching for the Yankees will be Masahiro Tanaka. He picked up the win in his last start at Texas despite not playing at his best. He has allowed at least one home run in all but two of his 10 starts this season, one of which was in an April 28 win over the Angels in Anaheim.
How Los Angeles Angels & New York Yankees Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Yankees are 40-17 in their last 57 home games vs. a team with a winning record.
Angels are 8-17 in their last 25 vs. a team with a winning record.
Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees
My reason for the pick :
The New York Yankees should be able to pick up this win at home as their batting will prove to be too much for the Angels to handle, Trout will have a great game but his solo effort won’t be enough to beat this loaded Yankees team at home.
