The finale of a 3-game set between the visiting San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs will take place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, at 7:15 pm EST on Saturday night, 5-25-2018.  The Giants occupy the 3rd place slot within the NL West while the Cubs are in 3rd place within the NL Central.  This will be the 1st meeting of the year between these two squads, however, the Cubs have won 4 of the last 7 meetings while also taking 3 of the last 4 at Wrigley Field.

San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :

The San Francisco Giants come into this matchup losers of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  Recently, the Giants came out strong against the Reds in a 3-game home set and picked up the series victory on 5-16-2018.  Nonetheless, they would tie a 4-game home set against the Colorado Rockies on 5-20-2018.  They also would come out flat in game 1 of a 2-game road set versus the Houston Astros and would suffer an 11-2 setback on their way to losing game 2 on 5-23-2018 by a score of 4-1.

For the season, the Giants are averaging 4.08 runs per game (21st) with a team batting average of .259 (5th), 51 homers (20th) along with 22 stolen bases (19th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.46 (23rd) with 371 strikeouts (26th) along with 17 quality starts (24th).

Brandon Belt (.317 BA on 167 AB) and Buster Posey (.305 BA on 151 AB) have been the most consistent hitters for the Giants this year.  Evan Longoria (.246 BA on 183 AB) has also been solid at the plate for San Francisco.

Chris Stratton (5-3, 53 IP, 31 R, 53 H, 6 HR, 24 BB, 42 SO, 4.92 ERA) has been consistent on the mound for the Giants this season.  On the other hand, Ty Blach (3-4, 57.2 IP, 32 R, 67 H, 4 HR, 19 BB, 27 SO, 4.37 ERA) has also been solid for the Giants in 2018.

Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :

The Cubs come into this game losers of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-2-1.  Recently, the Cubs faced the Braves on the road in a 3-game set to which they would get the tie (with game 3 being postponed due to weather conditions).  The Cubs, following this series, won a 4-game road set against the lowly Cincinnati Reds on 5-20-2018.  They did, however, come out flat in game 1 of a 2-game home set versus the Cleveland Indians and suffered a 10-1 shellacking on 5-22-2018 on their way to getting swept on 5-23-2018.

For the season, the Cubs are averaging 5.17 runs per game (3rd) with a team batting average of .256 (7th), 52 homers (18th) along with 16 stolen bases (26th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.37 (3rd) with 405 strikeouts (18th) with 21 quality starts on the season, good for 9th in the MLB.

Kris Bryant (.296 BA on 159 AB), Kyle Schwarber (.250 BA on 132 AB), and Javier Baez (.267 BA on 176 AB) have spearheaded the Cubs offensive attack this year.  Wilson Contreras has also been critical to the scoring attack with a batting average of .277 on 159 at bats.

Jon Lester (4-2) has been solid this year pitching 57 innings while allowing 19 runs on 46 hits, 6 homer, 22 walks, and 48 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.37 while Tyler Chatwood (3-4) has pitched 45.2 innings while allowing 20 runs on 34 hits, 2 homer, 40 walks, and 41 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.74.  Kyle Hendricks (3-3) has pitched 55.2 innings while allowing 23 runs on 49 hits, 9 homers, 11 walks, and 44 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.40 for the season.  Jose Quintana (5-3) has pitched 48.1 innings while allowing 27 runs on 46 hits, 7 homers, 25 walks, and 45 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.47.

How San Francisco Giants & Chicago Cubs Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Giants are 28-22 ATS while the O/U is 26-22-2.  On the other hand, the Cubs are 22-24 ATS while the O/U is 20-24-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This matchup will entail yet another great pitching matchup with Ty Blach (3-4) and Yu Darvish (1-3) both taking the hill.  While Darvish has been solid this season despite his record, Blach has struggled recently and has not obtain a win in 3 of his last starts.  Darvish has dominated the Giants lineup in the past while Blach does not have much experience facing the lineup for the Cubs, however, Jason Heyward (2-6), Wilson Contreras (2-6), and Ian Happ (3-4) has been successful against him in their respective careers.

Against The Spread Selection: Chicago Cubs

My reason for the pick :

I certainly have more confidence in Darvish at this point in the season to get the job done against a hot and cold Giants lineup.  Combine that with the fact that the Cubs have played well at home and the Giants are a dismal 10-16 (ML) away from AT&T Park, I expect the Cubs to pick of the series finale win in front of the Cubbie faithful on Sunday afternoon.  Besides, Blach has indeed given up some hits in his past few outings, so, also expect the Cubs to capitalize on his inconsistencies on the mound.
