Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Miami Marlins vs San Diego Padres

The Padres will welcome the Marlins to Petco Park as the two teams will face off in a four-game series. Both teams are last in their respective division, the Padres are in the NL West while the Marlins are in the NL East.

Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :

The Marlins will hit the road for a 9 game road trip starting Tuesday, the Marlins are 9-15 on the road this season. They are having a really hard time scoring this season, they are ranked last in the Major averaging only 3.37 runs per game. In their last three games, they were only managed to score 7 runs. After a bad start to the season, the Marlins now sit in the last place in the NL East picking up only 19 wins this season. There will be not much to play for in the matchup against the Padres but it would be a great opportunity for the young guys to earn playing time. Wei-Yin Chen had another masterful performance for the Marlins he gave up one run in 7 1/3 innings before the Marlins bullpen spoiled Chen’s effort. This is when you know that you are on a bad team.

J.T Realmuto went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.  He is up to eight doubles on the season picking up where he left off, with three multi-hit showings including a pair of three-hit affairs in his last four games. He is slashing  .325/.380/.548 over the course of 32 games with 16 RBIs and 6 homers on the season. It is hard for J.T to be the only one producing offense for this Marlins team, for a team to be successful at this level, it takes a collective effort to get it done. Although his individual numbers might look good on paper then you glance to see the score box his team ended up getting blown out, one player can do so much for a team but that doesn’t mean his numbers will lead them to victories.

Pitching for the Marlins will be Dan Straily. He has allowed three earned runs in 18 innings in his last three starts. He is 2-0 in those games, and the Marlins have won all three. He struggled in his first two starts after coming off the disabled list, giving up six runs in eight innings.

San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :

The Padres will be back at Petco Park for a 10 game homestand beginning Tuesday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the Marlins. The Padres haven’t been great at home they are 11-18 on the season. The Padres were able to win the second game over the Dodgers as they look to grab the series from them on the road. Coming into this series against the Marlins the Padres are 17th in pitching with a 4.14 ERA this season. One of the main struggles for the Padres this year has been their scoring they are only averaging 3.75 runs per game despite putting up 7 runs in their last outing they have only put up 4 runs in their last 3 games.

Christian Villanueva homered twice and drove in three runs, he now leads all rookies with 14 homers this season. The first blast came off of Alex Wood in the sixth inning with a runner on, and he added insurance with a solo shot off of Josh Fields. He finally recovered from his 0-37 drought as he will look to build on this batting performance. The Padres will hope that he will be able to carry on this type of batting performance when they in Petco Park. Villanueva now owns a .887 OPS over his 44 games this year. He should a player that everyone should keep an eye on because he is destined to do great things in the future.

Pitching for the Padres will be Tyson Ross. He was excellent in a win over the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts in a 3-1 victory. He now has a  3.13 ERA on the season while striking out 64 this season.

How Miami Marlins & San Diego Padres Matchup.

Marlins are 16-35 in their last 51 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.

Against The Spread Selection: Miami Marlins

My reason for the pick :

The reason why I am picking the Marlins to win on the road is that of Realmuto he will have a good game on the road. There are rumors that he might get traded before the trade deadline so he will have to showcase his talent and show the league what they are missing out of. As for the Padres they will continue to struggle at home.

Betting trends for Miami Marlins:

  • Marlins are 2-5 in their last 7 overall.

Betting trends for San Diego Padres:

  • Padres are 7-3 in their last 10 games vs. a right-handed starter.
