New York Mets's Latest Performance :

Shaky Game From Pitchers

What happened to the New York Mets team that jumped out to one of the best starts in baseball with a big lead in the NL East? Well to get started the Mets have been sluggish on the pitching end of things as they were once one of the top teams in that department. The Mets pitching woes continued in their 5/27 matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers as they gave up 8 runs on 11 hits in an 8-7 loss and the problem didn’t only lie with the starter but with their bullpen as well. The Mets elected to start a familiar face in Zack Wheeler who started his 9th game of 2018, but this start wasn’t one of his best as he allowed 4 earned runs on 6 hits in the 6 innings he appeared in. Wheeler has always been a solid 5th pitcher for a strong Mets rotation but this year has not been kind to him as the former first-round pick now has 4 losses and a 5.40 ERA. If there was one thing positive to take out of Wheeler’s awful game from the mound it was his solid game from the plate as the 4th year pitcher hit a 2-run single in the top of the 2nd inning which is the 7th RBI of his career. The bullpen was not much improved when Wheeler left the game as the combination of Robert Gsellman, Jerry Blevins, and Paul Sewald gave up another 4 runs in the final 2 innings they appeared in. The Mets are hoping they found a much-needed spark to their bottom 5 offense as Jose Bautista has been great in his short stay in the Big Apple as the veteran is batting .444 through his first 5 games.

Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :

Big Time Win

The Atlanta Braves have been solid all season as they lead a stacked NL East but we saw the Braves take a step back this weekend against arguably the best team in the MLB in the Boston Red Sox as they lost 2 of their 3 matchups, but the positive thing for Atlanta is the fact that they were able to win the last game of the series. The Atlanta Braves returned back home after a good game from both their pitching staff as well as their batting lineup as they won 7-1 and beat one of the best pitchers in Chris Sale. The Braves best starter this season has been former first-round pick Mike Foltynewicz as the veteran holds the best ERA out of the 5 starters with a 2.55. Foltynewicz was able to extend on his solid start to the season with a 7 strikeout game in the 7 innings he appeared in as he was able to hold the hot-hitting Red Sox to only 3 hits. Foltynewicz has never lived up to first-round expectations as he has never had below a 4.31 ERA in his first 4 seasons but if the veteran right-hander keeps up the success he will not only crush his personal best but lead the Braves to a playoff appearance. The Braves have been great on offense all season as they sit in the top 5 in runs scored but they might be searching for answers after the #1 prospect in Robert Acuna suffered an injury in their 5/27 win. Acuna has been great for the Braves all season as the 20-year-old has already compiled 5 HRs and 13 RBIs in his short stay in the MLB and with Ozzie Albies batting ahead of him in the lineup they had one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Mets

My reason for the pick :

Most people may call you crazy if you told them you are backing the 4th place Mets over the 1st place Braves which is true for most days other than 5/30 as the Mets are throwing their best guy in Noah Syndergaard. As we have seen the ace has been one of the few pitchers to give the Mets consistent production (hence his 4-1 record) and given the Braves lost one of their best bats in Robert Acuna we may see a slight slump from Atlanta. Teheran has also been hit or miss for the Braves this season and with him giving up a ton of runs in the early portion of the season it may be just what the doctor ordered for the Mets offense. New York steals a game on the road.

Betting trends for New York Mets:

  • New York is 17-15 in night games this season.

  • The under is 14-8 against NL East opponents this season.

Betting trends for Atlanta Braves:

  • Atlanta is 14-15 after a win this season

  • The over is 10-7-3 at home this season.
