Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies
The Rockies will face off against the Giants yet again after just they have just matched up a few days ago. This time around the Giants will be facing the Rockies in a 3 game series. The Rockies are now first in the NL West while the Giants still remains in 3rd place. This will be their second meeting of the season, in the first meeting both teams ended up winning two games apiece.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
The Giants has started their 8 game road trip not so well they are currently 0-3 on the road with losses against the Cubs and the Astros. The Giants will have another opportunity to go at their NL West rival the Rockies. These two teams just recently matched up and the series ended at 2-2. The Giants aren’t a great team on the road this season they are 10-17 and have dropped nine of their last 10 road games. The Giants are ranked 20th in scoring with 206 runs scored this season. The Giants real problem this season has been their pitching they are ranked 23rd with a 4.48 ERA. Holland was pitching great during the first 6 innings then everything went south in the 7th inning allowing 5 hits 2 earned runs and 2 walks.
Gorkys Hernandez belted a solo home run and added a single. He had two of the Giants’ four hits on the day, taking Kyle Hendricks deep in the fourth inning for the club’s lone run off the starter. He now has 5 homers on the year. He is slashing .296/.320/.480 with 8 RBIs on the season.
Pitching for the Giants will be Andrew Suarez. He was hit hard in Tuesday’s loss to the Astros, giving up five runs on seven hits over four innings. He also issued a pair of walks in this one while striking out only two. The Astros broke the game open with three runs against him in the third inning, then tacked on another pair in the fourth. It marked the second straight rough outing for he now owns a 5.68 ERA and 1.39 WHIP.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
The Rockies have now extended the lead on top of the NL West by beating out the Reds. They have improved their home record to 8-11 and will hope to do the same when the Giants come to visit them in Coor Field. Coming into this series the Rockies are ranked 24th in batting with 204 runs scored this season. They hope to start a winning streak soon because they want to take advantage of the D-Backs struggles. The Coor Field schedule has been light, but they will play the next 15 games at home.
Nolan Arenado hit his ninth homer and walked twice, the homer off Sal Romano was Arenado’s first since May 5. He’s still hitting .320 with a .970 OPS. He’d be contending for the league lead in RBI. I expect him to do really well in this upcoming homestand as he will become the focal point of the Rockies offense.
Gerardo Parra is hitting .333 with 2 homers and 7 RBIs in his last 13 games. He also picked up 2 more RBIs in his last outing. He has picked the perfect time to get hot because the Rockies will need to win as many games as they can in this long homestand.
Pitching for the Rockies will be Chad Bettis. He gave up two runs over five innings with four strikeouts in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Tuesday. He has a 3.30 ERA on the season along with a 1.20 WHIP.
