Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
San Francisco Giants vs Colorado Rockies
The Rockies will welcome back the Giants for game 2 of the 3 game series. These two teams are only separated by two games. The Rockies will be looking to extend their lead on top of the division while the Giants are looking to take the top spot away from the Rockies.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
The Giants will be looking to steal a series win against the Cubs on the road the win snapped the Giants 3 game losing streak, the Giants are currently on an 8 game road trip. They are not a good road team this season they have a road record of 11-17 as they prepare themselves to face the division leader the Rockies. Coming into this series the Giants are 19th in batting with 211 runs scored this season and 23rd in pitching with a 4.47 ERA they are 3rd place in the division but only two games behind for the top spot anything can happen in this division because it is so competitive. This series could be the decider to whether who is going to be on top of the division.
Hernandez has been on a roll for the Giants he matched his career high with an 8 game hitting streak and has collected 3 hits in 3 consecutive contests for the first time in his career. During his 8 game hitting streak, he is batting .419. Brandon Crawford went 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run home run. It was his 6th homer of the season. The multi-hit game was his third in his last six contests, leaving his overall line at a surprisingly robust .312/.358/.491 with 23 RBI and 20 runs scored.
Pitching for the Giants will be Jeff Samardzija. He allowed four hits and four runs (three earned) over 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in the Giants’ loss to the Astros. He handed out five free passes in addition to his three strikeouts. He has an ERA of 6.23 and extended his winless streak to six starts.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
The Rockies weren’t able to pick up the win against the Reds in the second game, they have now lost 5 of their last 7 games, the Rockies weren’t able to capitalize when the bases were loaded, they must do a better job closing out games. The ability for teams to close out games will play a huge part when teams are fighting for postseason seedings, so it was good that the Rockies were able to experience something like this early so when the same situation arises again they will know what to do. Despite the loss, they are still the NL West division leader with a record of 27-25. They are hoping to turn things around when they play the Giants.
Charlie Blackmon went 2-for-4 with an RBI. The RBI came on a triple, the second three-bagger of the season for the star outfielder. He’s still hitting a very strong .274/.375/.525 on the year with 12 homers and 24 RBI in his 47 games. David Dahl also contributed with a 3 RBIs hitting 1 for 4. As well as these two batted they will be gutted that they could not pick up the win for their team when the bases were loaded because they missed a golden opportunity to extend the lead on top of the division they had the game in their hand and they allow it to slip away. This is why I am so confident that the Rockies will come out gunning early when they play the Giants because they don’t want to put themselves in that situation again because it can really affect the confidence of the players.
Pitching for the Rockies will be Kyle Freeman. He logged a quality start in Wednesday’s loss to the Dodgers, allowing three runs on six hits over his 6 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out three in the contest. He now owns a 3.28 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 52/21 K/BB ratio across his 60 1/3 innings.
How San Francisco Giants & Colorado Rockies Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Rockies are 8-3 in their last 11 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Giants are 19-40 in their last 59 road games.
Against The Spread Selection: Colorado Rockies
My reason for the pick :
I predict that the Rockies will take care of business at home as they will cruize pass the Giants because they have learned their lesson from what happened to them against the Reds and they don’t want to be in that position again. Expect the Rockies to score early and never look back as they will extend the lead at the top of the division.
