San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
Good Start, Bad Ending
The San Francisco Giants have the certain pieces on their team to make a push for the postseason but one thing that has continuously come back and hurt them is the disappointing season from the starting pitchers. With Madison Bumgarner sidelined and Johnny Cueto on and off the DL, the next best pitcher for the Giants has been Ty Blach which says a lot about the makeup of the team as the 2nd-year starter enters this series with a 3-5 record and a 4.90 ERA. Blach was given the ball for the Giants 5/27 matchup against the Chicago Cubs but the southpaw’s 11th start of the season didn’t go accordingly as Blach was responsible for 5 runs on 7 hits in the 3 innings he appeared in. The bullpen was also not much of a help as Pierce Johnson matched Blach in the runs department as the reliever gave up 3 earned runs in the 3 innings he appeared in. Rookie Pierce Johnson has not lived up to first-round expectations this season as the right-handed reliever entered this series with a 6.26 ERA in over 21 appearances. The Giants were able to get off to a hot start in their series finale against the Cubs as they scored all 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning, but the bats went silent the rest of the game as not much offense was generated. Mac Williamson may have only recorded 1 hit in his 4 plate appearances but he made that hit worthwhile as he drove home 2 guys to raise his season total to 8 RBIs which has already topped his 2017 production. The Giants need guys like Andrew McCutchen and Evan Longoria to step up in a big way as the two veterans have combined for a batting average of .245.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
Big Offensive Game
The Colorado Rockies may be in first-place in the NL West but that doesn’t say much as if the Rockies resided in the American League they would sit in 4th place in the same division as they have been average this season. The Rockies home ballpark in Coors Field is one of the best stadiums for hitters as the air in Colorado allows for the ball to carry with a bunt, and we saw just that in their previous series against the Cincinnati Reds. The Rockies were able to close out their series against the Reds with an 8-2 win behind 4 HRs from the offense with one of them being a moonshot off the bat of Carlos Gonzales. The veteran OF is only a few years removed from his 40 HR season back in 2015 but he has looked nothing like his slugging self as the 32-year-old entered this 5/27 matchup with only 4 HRs in 36 games, but that is history as the Gonzales took a pitch in the bottom of the 1st inning to the third deck. Nolan Arenado was also able to continue his hot start to the season as the stud 3B hit his 10th HR of the season in the bottom of the 6th inning. The pitchers were also solid for the Rockies especially 2nd-year starter German Marquez who went 7 innings while only giving up 1 earned run in what was his 4th win of the season. Two of the best relievers in Adam Ottavino and Wade Davis also flashed their dominance as they combined for 1.1 innings in the exit of Marquez where the duo didn’t allow a single hit. Ottavino is enjoying the best season of his 8-year career as the 32-year-old entered this series with a 3-0 record and a .95 ERA.

Against The Spread Selection: Colorado Rockies
My reason for the pick :
The Colorado Rockies are smelling the playoffs once again as that has become the culture in the Mile High City and the Rockies have yet another opportunity to continue growing on their division lead with a win against San Fran. The Rockies Jon Gray has been average this season but I expect the southpaw to eventually get back on the right track as he is coming off a 12-4 year in 2017 as he was the ace for this playoff ballclub. The Rockies are also playing at home so it gives the bats some confidence as anyone 1-9 in the batting order can go yard. Holland has been awful this season considering he is 2-6 and the fact that he is going against a solid Rockies team on the road I will not back him in this game. Colorado wins at home.
