Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
St. Louis Cardinals vs Milwaukee Brewers
This will be a matchup between the two top teams in the NL Central as the Brewers will welcome the Cards to Miller Park to play in a 3 game series. This will be their 3rd meeting this season between the two teams with the Brewers leading the series 2-1.
St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Cards were able to recover from losing the series opener to the Pirates by winning two straight games. They will be capping off a 6 game road trip by playing against the NL Central leader Brewer in a 3 game series. The Cards are 13-11 when playing on the road this season with a 28-22 record on the season. Coming into this series the Cards are 7th in pitching one below the Brewers with the same ERA 3.47. This series will be very close as the teams are well matched. One of the main problem of the Cards this season is their inability to score as they are ranked 20th in the Major with only 216 runs scored this season. This will be a matchup between the top two teams in the NL Central.
Jedd Gyorko still remains one of the bright spots offensively for the Cards this season. He finished the game 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs, he will face a tough challenge ahead going up against the Brewers who are absolutely on fire at the moment. He is slashing .287/.370/.460 with 15 RBIs with 4 homers. The Cards will have to be focused because they have the Cubs right behind them and if they end up losing this series to the Brewers they might end up 4th place in the division that is how competitive this division is right now.
Pitching for the Cards will be Alex Reyes. He will be returning from his shoulder injury to make his season debut against the Brewers. He made quick work of his four minor league rehab starts, striking out 44 over 23 scoreless innings. It will be very interesting how he will match up against the Brewers.
Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :
The Brewers are one of the hottest team in the Major right now, they have definitely flip the switch and the Brewers are looking like real contenders after putting up 17 runs against the Mets they closed out the series with an impressive comeback win. The Brewers are currently on a three-game winning streak, they have a record of 34-20 best in the NL and enjoying a 3 games cushion over the Cards. One of the reasons why the Brewers are playing really well is because their much-improved pitching they are now ranked 6th best in the Major with a 3.47 ERA this season.
During the Brewers 17-game hot streak, Aguilar is batting .302 with seven of his nine home runs and 19 of his 30 RBIs on the season. He homered in his second straight game and drove in four runs. He knocked an RBI single in the first inning before turning on an inside pitch for a three-run jack in the third. The homer was his second in as many games and his ninth of the year. He is slashing .325/.390/.595 on the season.
Pitching for the Brewers will be Junior Guerra. He was effective and efficient against the Mets on Friday, logging six quality innings on 72 pitches before the manager opted to tap his bullpen. Guerra has allowed two or fewer runs in seven of nine starts. He now owns an ERA of 2.98 while striking out 44 this season.
