Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
Hamels Banged Up
The Texas Rangers may be over the 20 win mark which is rare for last-place teams in the MLB as only one other team is above that mark and in last place (San Diego) but that still doesn’t mean the Rangers are average as they have shown their competitiveness in the finale of their recent series against the Kansas City Royals. The Texas Rangers main flaw outside of their injuries can be accredited to the sluggish pitching out of some of their veteran starters with one of those guys being Cole Hamels. Hamels was given the start in this 5/27 matchup against one of the worst-offensive minded teams in the league and the veteran left-handed pitcher was not able to take advantage of that as he was roughed up for 5 earned runs on 8 hits in the 6.1 innings he appeared in. Hamels may only be 3-4 with a 3.72 ERA and even though they aren’t terrible numbers for a guy out of his prime he is supposed to be the ace for this struggling ballclub which are numbers well below ace status. The Rangers bullpen was solid in Hamels exit though as the combination of Tony Barnette, Jake Diekman, and Jesse Chavez gave up only 1 hit in the 2.2 innings they appeared in. The one guy who has given the Rangers a glimmer of hope this season is slugger Joey Gallo who has been the best hitter for the Rangers ever since his 41 HR season last year. Gallo was able to connect on a pitch in the bottom of the 7th inning to continue growing his season total as he is now up to 15 on the young 2018 season which is easily a team-high.
Seattle Mariners's Latest Performance :
If you have been following me all season I have constantly told you about the potential that the Seattle Mariners have to be a serious contender in the AL West and here they are as they have won 8 of their last 10 matchups and sit only 1 game out of first place. The Mariners were able to close up their recent series against the Minnesota Twins on a high-note as they used a 3-1 win to sweep their American League opponent. The Mariners best performance came out of right-handed starter Mike Leake who went 8 innings while only giving up 1 earned run in what was his 5th win of the season. Leake may have a 4.93 ERA through his first 11 starts but things may be looking upward for the former first-round pick as the Mariners are praying that the veteran returns to his 2017 self where he went 3-1 with a 2.53 ERA in the 5 starts he received with the Mariners after being traded from the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mariners don’t only have to be satisfied with the outing of Leake but the fact that they didn’t have to empty the bullpen as Alex Colome was the lone reliever to see action. Colome was solid in his first appearance in a Mariners uniform as the former Ray was able to pitch a 1-2-3 inning in what was his 1st save in Seattle. Ryon Healy delivered most of the offense for Seattle as he went 3 for 4 from the plate with 2 RBIs which came from one swing of the bat. Healy put a bow on the Mariners win as he delivered a 2-run double in the bottom of the 8th inning which has now upped his season total to 22 RBIs.

Against The Spread Selection: Seattle Mariners
My reason for the pick :
The Seattle Mariners are as hot as any team in baseball right now and given their recent success and the opponent they have ahead of them there is no reason that the Mariners shouldn’t find themselves at the top of the AL West by the end of the week. The Mariners and Rangers are on two opposite sides of the standings and given the starting pitching matchup in this game I am no doubt giving my money to the better pitcher in James Paxton. Ever since Paxton pitched a no-hitter against Toronto the southpaw has been absolutely dominant and with his coming off one of the better outings of his career I expect him to outduel the 7.99 ERA pitcher in Matt Moore. Seattle wins at home.
