Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox will welcome the Blue Jays to Fenway Park as the two teams will go face to face in a 3 game series. The Red Sox are first in the AL East while the Blue Jays are 3rd. This will be their 3rd meeting of the season, the Red Sox have a 2-0 series lead over the Blue Jays.

Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :

The Blue Jays will continue their 9 game road trip as they will visit the Major leader Red Sox, the Blue Jays are coming off a terrific win over the Phillies. The Blue Jays are 2-9 in their last 11 games. The Blue Jays now have a record of 24-27 placing them 3rd in the AL East division. The AL East division is one of the most difficult division to play because the Yankees and the Red Sox have already secured their position and all the Blue Jays can do is settle for 3rd. Coming into this series the Blue Jays are 7th in scoring with 240 runs scored this season but they are 24th when it comes to pitching with a 4.65 ERA on the season. The Blue Jays bullpen Ryan Tepera came up huge for the Blue Jays as he was able to obtain his first save of the season.

Yangervis Solarte went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. He also drove in a run with a double in the first inning. He has become a fixture in the middle of the Blue Jays’ lineup and is now hitting .270/.332/.503 with 11 homers and 32 RBI on the season. Solarte and Pillar had consecutive RBI doubles in the first inning. If the Blue Jays are able to close games like they did against the Phillies they should be a team to watch as the season progresses. The Red Sox won’t be an easy matchup for them but they will have to do all they can to keep the game close and attack the Red Sox bullpen.

Pitching for the Blue Jays will be Aaron Sanchez. Walks continue to be a major problem for Sanchez. He issued 5 free passes over 5 innings in his last start and is averaging 5.5 walks per nine innings this year. Sanchez finished his last outing with the second-most walks in the Majors with 34.

Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

The Red Sox will cap off their 6 game homestand as they will face the Blue Jays in a 3 game series. The Red Sox now have the best record in the Major with 35-16. They are coming off an impressive win against the Braves as they put up 4 homers in the win at home. It is now the fourth time this season that Boston had four or more home runs in a game. They are 19-4 with multiple home runs this year. The Red Sox are 2nd in the major when it comes to scoring they only trail the Yankees by 10 runs for the top spot, this season the Red Sox have scored 270 runs in 51 games. From the very beginning of the season, the Red Sox were destined to have a great season, their batting rotation has stepped it up big time for them this season. They have now built themselves a 3 game cushion over the Yankees.

Mookie Betts now leads the Major with 17 homers on the season. The Red Sox were up by one run when Betts deposited a two-run homer into the Monster Seats in the seventh. That gives him four homers in his last seven games. Betts also drew a walk and stole a base on the night. In addition to leading the majors in homers, he’s also at the top in batting average (.361) and OPS (1.199) with 37 RBIs. He has really been dominant for the Red Sox this season as he always seems to come up when the team needs him the most. He has a really good chance of winning MVP if he continues to put up big numbers.

Pitching for the Red Sox is Rick Porcello. He had his shortest outing of the season Thursday, allowing eight hits and six runs four earned in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Rays. He’s still 6-2 with a 1.14 WHIP and 65 strikeouts in 67 1/3 innings as he looks to bounce back against the Blue Jays.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox

My reason for the pick :

The Red Sox will pick up an easy win at home as the Red Sox batters are firing on all cylinders. They are a very hard team to beat at home they are 16-7 when playing at Fenway Park. With Porcello controlling the mound, it will be hard for the Red Sox to lose this game.
