Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox

The finale of a 3-game set between the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox will take place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 pm EST.  The Blue Jays are in 4th place within the AL East while Boston occupies the top spot in the division.  This will be the 3rd meeting of the year amongst these two teams, however, the Red Sox have won 4 of their last 6 meetings, all being at Rodgers Centre in Toronto.

Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :

The Blue Jays are losers of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-1-3.  Recently, Toronto would come out flat in a 4-game home set versus the Oakland Athletics and would end up getting swept on 5-19-2018.  They would also get swept in a 3-game home set versus the Angels on 5-24-2018.  They would, however, recover and get a 3-game series win over the Philadelphia Phillies on 5-27-2018.

For the season, the Toronto Blue Jays are averaging 4.64 runs per game (9th) with a team batting average of .229 (27th), 67 homers (6th) along with 21 stolen bases (23rd).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.56 (24th) with 447 strikeouts (15th) along with 18 quality starts on the season (25th).

Kevin Pillar (.277 BA on 195 AB), Justin Smoak (.247 BA on 170 AB), and Yangervis Solarte (.267 BA on 195 AB) have been the offensive spearheads for the Toronto Blue Jays this season.

Pitcher JA Happ (7-3, 65.2 IP, 30 R, 55 H, 9 HR, 18 BB, 79 SO with an ERA of 3.84) has been the most consistent pitcher for the Blue Jay’s bullpen this year.  Aaron Sanchez (2-4, 55.1 IP, 28 R, 50 H, 5 HR, 34 BB, 42 SO with an ERA of 4.07) and Marco Estrada (2-5, 55 IP, 33 R, 62 H, 12 HR, 17 BB, 41 SO with an ERA of 5.40) have not been as consistent, yet, very serviceable components for the Blue Jays.

Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

The Boston Red Sox come into this game winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2.  Recently, the Red Sox lost a 3-game home set to the Oakland Athletics while winning a 4-game home set against the Baltimore Orioles in their following series that ended on 5-20-2018.  The Red Sox would go on to not only play well in a 3-game road set versus the Rays to win the series, but, they would also defeat the Braves in a 3-game home set on 5-27-2018.

For the season, the Red Sox are averaging 5.26 runs per game (2nd) with a team batting average of .264 (1st), 76 homers (2nd), along with 35 stolen bases (6th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.59 (10th) with 528 strikeouts (2nd) along with 25 quality starts on the year (6th).

Mookie Betts (.359 BA on 184 AB), J.D. Martinez (.320 BA on 194 AB), Hanley Ramirez (.254 BA on 177 AB), Rafael Devers (.233 BA on 193 AB) and Andrew Benintendi (.283 BA on 177 AB) have all been consistent at the plate this year for the Red Sox and are their primary offensive leaders.  Eduardo Nunez (.243 BA on 181 AB) is also a key offensive component for Boston.

Chris Sale (5-2, 75 IP, 25 R, 52 H, 9 HR, 20 BB, 104 SO, 2.76 ERA), Rick Porcello (6-2, 67.1 IP, 30 R, 64 H, 5 HR, 13 BB, 65 SO, 3.74 ERA) and David Price (4-4, 57.1 IP, 29 R, 49 H, 6 HR, 22 BB, 55 SO, 4.08) have held it down for the Red Sox pitching staff all season.

How Toronto Blue Jays & Boston Red Sox Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Blue Jays are 29-24 ATS while the O/U is 24-23-6.  On the other hand, the Red Sox are 27-26 ATS while the O/U is 25-26-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This matchup will be a division contest against a team in Boston that has truly dominated the Blue Jays in recent meetings.  The Red Sox have won 6 of their last 8 games while the Blue Jays continue to drop games consistently, losing 7 of their last 10.  Sam Gaviglio (2-0) will take the mound for Toronto on Wednesday while Eduardo Rodriguez (5-1) will take the mound for the Red Sox.  While Gaviglio has faced the Red Sox before only in relief status, in his last matchup against the Sox, he pitched 1.1 innings while allowing 1 run on 1 hit, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts in a 5-3 home loss on 5-13-2018.  Rodriguez, on the other hand, pitched 6.2 innings while giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks, 1 homer, and 5 strikeouts in a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays on 4-25-2018.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox

My reason for the pick :

With the way Toronto has struggled recently, there will be no way that I would attempt to convince myself that they could possible win the finale against the Red Sox on Wednesday.  While I would say that anything can happen in the MLB, I will restate and say that it is not very probable (at all) that the Blue Jays will even remotely come close to winning this game 3 matchup.  Eduardo Rodriguez comes into this game throwing very solid from the mound and combined with the Red Sox offense continuing to click, they should not have many problems putting Toronto away and picking up the series win.
