Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Washington Nationals vs Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles will welcome the Nationals to Oriole Park as the two teams will face off in a 3 games series. The Orioles are last in the AL East division while the Nationals are third in the NL East division. This will be the first time that these two teams will meet this season.
Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :
The Nationals are on the verge of sweeping the Marlins taking advantage of the Marlins bullpen by putting up 4 runs in the 8th and 9th inning, they are currently on their 10 game road trip as they will travel to play the O’s. The Nationals are a pretty decent team on the road with a record of 16-8 National League-best and that put them in 3rd place in the NL East, they are only two games behind the Phillies for the top spot so anything can happen in this division. The Nationals will have a high chance of going on top of the division because they will be playing the O’s. The Nationals are 6th best when it comes to pitching with an ERA of 3.46, the Nats have some quality pitchers that can singlehandedly when you baseball games.
Mark Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a go-ahead solo home run in the ninth inning. He stepped up clutch, smacking a solo home run off Brad Ziegler to lead off the ninth. That snapped a 1-1 tie. He has come out like a house on fire since having his contract purchased from Triple-A Syracuse earlier this month. In nine games helping to fill in for the injured Ryan Zimmerman, the veteran first baseman has homered five times and driven in seven runs while working to a .444 batting average. He has definitely seized the opportunity given to him as he will now become one of the main contributors to this Nationals team moving forward.
Pitching for the Nationals will be Max Scherzer. He secured his major-league leading eighth win after giving up four runs over six innings against the Marlins on Friday. He ranks third in the NL with a 2.13 ERA. I expect him to do really well against the O’s as the Nationals will now have eyes on the top spot of the division.
Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :
The O’s didn’t have a great start to the game as they gave up 5 runs in the first two innings that ultimately cost them the game against the Rays, it is hard for the batters to play from behind if the starting pitcher can’t hold his ground early in the game. It has been a disappointing season for the O’s so far as they still remain in the last place of the AL East division, the O’s are having real problems with their pitching this season they have a 4.98 ERA. Andrew Cashner allows a season-high 11 hits. The only bright spot on the team still remains to Manny Machado as he will likely be traded before the trade deadline. The O’s will have to start to rebuild their team from scratch because they haven’t found any consistency this season.
Chris Davis went 1-for-2 with an RBI single. He managed an RBI single in the seventh inning, resulting in the only run to score for the O’s in the 5-1 loss. He is slashing a .159/.247/.253 with just four home runs and 13 RBI in 47 games. It must be very tough for him playing on a bad team like the bad team like the O’s and his effort on the team isn’t rewarded because the team can’t figure out a way to win games. The O’s offense held to three or fewer runs in nine of its past 11 games.
Pitching for the O’s will be Dylan Bundy. The O’s righty turned in a masterful complete game on Thursday afternoon against the White Sox. Bundy struck out 14 in that outing and will look to keep rolling against the Nationals. He owns an ERA of 4.45 with 77 strikeouts this season.
