Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros

The Astros will welcome the Red Sox to Minute Maid to play in a 4 game series, there will be a lot on the line for this series as the World Champs will be going head to head against the best team in the Major this season. The Red Sox are first in the AL East division while the Astros are first in the AL West. This will be their first meeting of the season for the two teams.

Boston Red Sox 's Latest Performance :

The Red Sox will be on the road as they prepare to matchup against the Astros in a 4 game series. The Red Sox now have the best record in the Major they are 37-17 this season and 19-9 on the road this season. They were able to recover from their skid earlier this month. The Red Sox have now regained their mojo back by scoring 8 runs on the Blue Jay. The Red Sox are second in scoring this season averaging 5.31 runs per game and only traveling the Yankees by a single run in the batting ranks.

Andrew Benintendi went 3-for-4 with a homer. He once again finished a double short of the cycle. He slugged a three-run homer in the fourth inning before adding an RBI triple in the sixth. After hitting one homer over his first 32 games this season, he’s homered six times in his last 18 games. The 23-year-old is now hitting .292/.378/.521 overall with 7 homers and 37 RBIs on the season. This shows you the depth of this Red Sox batting and the flexibility that the coach has to pick anyone who can come fill in for their best batter is certainly a plus.

Mookie Betts should be back in the team when they visit Houston, the Red Sox will definitely need him as the team will go up against elite pitchers for 4 games. He should recover by then because Mookie does not want to miss an opportunity to show up against the World Series Champion. He is slashing .359/.437/.750 with a major leading 17 homers with 37 RBIs this season.

Pitching for the Red Sox is Drew Pomeranz. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings in his most recent start against the Braves, allowing five runs and three walks. Through seven outings this season, he has a 6.75 ERA and a 1.88 WHIP. He will face a tough challenge when is playing on the road against the Astros.

Houston Astros 's Latest Performance :

The Astros are the best pitching team in the Major this season with a team ERA of 2.58 and in the series opener against the Yankees, they reminded us that better pitching will still win you close games.  The Astros will be back at Minute Maid Park for a 6 game homestand beginning Thursday. The homestand opens with a four-game series against the Red Sox. The World Series champs are 16-11 when playing at home this season. It is a good thing that the Astros are playing two elite teams back to back because they can figure where is the team as a whole so adjustments can be made accordingly. Just Verlander came through for the Astros yet again he held the Yankees to one run five hits in 6 2/3 innings only giving up one homer to Greg Bird in the 7th inning.

Jose Altuve batted his 4th homer of the year hitting a solo homer against the Yankees,  collected hits in 10 straight at-bats over the weekend and appears to be settling into a nice groove. He’s homered twice in the past three days and has driven in seven runs over his last four games. The defending AL MVP is batting .329/.374/.467 overall. The Astros will need his production yet again when the Red Sox come to visit.

J.D. Davis connected for a three-run homer. It was his first homer of the season and it couldn’t have come at a better time. He has been batting really well for the Astros since being called up from the Triple-A. If he continues to bat well for the team he could become an interesting commodity if cracking the lineup regularly. Players are just waiting for the opportunity to play in the Major and Davis is making the most of his opportunity with the World Series Champs.

Pitching for the Astros Lance McCullers. He allowed seven runs over 4 1/3 innings in Saturday’s loss to the Indians. He gave up six hits, three of which left the yard and accounted for six of the seven runs against him. They were three more homers than he’d given up in his last six starts combined. He has a 3.98 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 68/25 K/BB ratio across 11 starts.

How Boston Red Sox & Houston Astros Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Astros are 38-14 in their last 52 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Red Sox are 42-17 in their last 59 games vs. a right-handed starter.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

Pitching will dominate batting once again as the Astros should be able to take the series opener over the Red Sox at home. Although the two starting batters aren’t the best the Astros will remind us again who was champion last season, it won’t be a walk in the park type victory but they will be able to pull out a decisive win at home over the Red Sox.

Betting trends for Boston Red Sox :

  • Red Sox are 37-16 in their last 53 overall.

Betting trends for Houston Astros :

  • Astros are 9-3 in their last 12 overall.
