Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Cincinnati Reds vs San Diego Padres
Game 1 of a 3-game set between the visiting Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres will take place at PetCo Park in San Diego, California, on Friday night at 10:10 pm EST. The Reds have struggled all year long and currently occupy the last place slot within the AL Central while the Padres have also struggled with inconsistency primarily at the offensive end, thus explaining their last place ranking within the NL West division. This will serve as the 1st meeting of the season amongst these two squads, however, the Padres have won 4 of the last 7 meetings while sweeping the Reds in their last meeting at PetCo Park on 6-12-2017.
Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :
The Reds have lost 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4. Recently, after losing a 4-game home set to the Chicago Cubs on 5-20-2018, the Reds would win a 3-game home set versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on 5-24-2018. They would, however, follow this effort up by dropping a 3-game road set against the Colorado Rockies on 5-25-2018. Furthermore, the Reds would continue their awful play in a 3-game road set versus the struggling Arizona Diamondbacks by losing the first 2 games of the series.

San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :
The Padres come into this matchup losers of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U has been 2-3. Recently, the Padres won a 4-game road set versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on 5-20-2018. The Padres, however, would come out flat in their following 3-game road series versus the Nationals and would suffer another series loss on 5-23-2018. Furthermore, they would also drop a 3-game home set to division foe Los Angeles Dodgers on 5-27-2018. The Padres would, however, tie their current 4-game home set against the Marlins by picking up a 9-5 win on 5-29-2018.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The Reds continue to struggle; However, the Padres have won 4 of their last 6 home games (6 of their last 11 games overall). The pitcher for the Padres has not been determined, however, Tyler Mahle (3-6) will come to the mound for the Reds looking to receive his first win in his last 4 attempts. He did not pitch very well in his last outing by going 5 innings while allowing 4 runs on 6 hits in a 6-5 road win versus the Colorado Rockies on 5-26-2018. Mahle has struggled recently in allow at least 4 runs and 6 hits in his last 3 starts.
Against The Spread Selection: San Diego Padres
My reason for the pick :
With the way both teams are currently struggling, it can be difficult to choose the winner and loser in such a contest; However, I can say that the Padres have indeed played much better than the Reds lately. As stated, the Padres have won 4 of their last 6 home games and are seeking to maintain their confidence from winning their last outing in game 2 versus the Marlins. This will be Mahle’s first crack at the Padres lineup, so, it will be interesting to see how the hot and cold San Diego offense takes advantage of the glaring inconsistencies in the right-hander’s performance on the mound on Friday.
