Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Los Angeles Angels vs Detroit Tigers

Game 3 of a 4-game set versus the visiting Los Angeles Angels and the Detroit Tigers will take place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, on Wednesday night at 7:10 pm EST.  The Angels are currently in 3rd place within the AL West while the Tigers are in 3rd place in the AL Central division.  This will be the 1st meeting of the year amongst these two squads, however, the Angels have won 4 of the last 7 meetings while taking 2 of their last 3 games at Comerica Park.

Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :

The Angels come into this game winners of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-2-2.  Recently, the Angels lost a 4-game home set against the Tampa Bay Rays on 5-20-2018.  They would, however, go on to win a 3-game road set versus the reeling Toronto blue Jays on 5-24-2018.  Nonetheless, the Angels would fall in a 3-game road set to the NY Yankees on 5-27-2018.

For the season, the Angels are averaging 4.68 runs per game (8th) with a team batting average of .247 (14th), 68 homers (4th) along with 31 stolen bases (10th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.64 (11th) with 492 strikeouts (6th) with 23 quality starts on the year (11th).

Andrelton Simmons (.332 BA on 190 AB), Mike Trout (.306 BA on 183 AB), and Albert Pujols (.247 BA on 194) have been the offensive leaders for the Angels offense this season.  Justin Upton (.251 BA on 195 AB) has also been very consistent contributor to the offense as el this season.

Tyler Skaggs (3-3) has pitched 55 innings while allowing 19 runs on 52 hits 7 homers, 16 walks, and 59 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.11.  Garrett Richards (4-4) has pitched 54 innings while allowing 32 runs on 45 hits, 7 homers, 28 walks, and 60 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.67.

Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :

The Detroit Tigers have won 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-3-1.  The Tigers would recently win a 3-game home set versus the Cleveland Indians on 5-16-2018, yet, would not take this momentum into their next series as they lost a 4-game road set against the Mariners on 5-20-2018.  The Tigers would also lose their following series to the Minnesota Twins in a 3-game road set on 5-23-2018 while returning to form in winning a 3-game home set versus the lowly Chicago White Sox on 5-27-2018.

Currently, the Tigers are averaging 4.17 runs per game (19th) with a team batting average of .254 (11th), 44 homers (29th), along with 24 stolen bases (17th).  Their pitching staff possesses an ERA of 4.32 (21st) with 394 strikeouts (27th), along with 21 quality starts on the year (19th).

Miguel Cabrera (.323 BA on 93 AB), Nicholas Castellanos (.323 BA on 195 AB), and Leonys Martin (.252 BA on 159 AB) spearhead the Tiger offensive attack.  Jeimer Candelario (.272 BA on 158 AB) along with Victor Martinez (.245 BA on 159 AB) have also been solid as well this season.

Michael Fulmer (2-3) has pitched 57.1 innings this year while allowing 29 runs on 53 hits, 6 homers, 20 walks, and 51 strikeouts with an ERA of 4.08 while Matthew Boyd (2-4) has pitched 52 innings while allowing 19 runs on 39 hits, 3 homers, 17 walks, and 41 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.29.  Francisco Liriano (3-2) has also pitched 57.2 innings while allowing 25 runs on 41 hits, 8 homers, 29 walks, and 45 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.90.

How Los Angeles Angels & Detroit Tigers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Angels are 26-27 ATS while the O/U is 24-26-3.  On the other hand, the Tigers are 27-25 ATS while the O/U is 22-28-2.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Angels are continuing to attempt to erect themselves after a skid which they lost 6 of 7.  Since this awful stretch, the Angels have won 3 of their last 5 games and have garnered some momentum moving forward.  The Tigers, on the other hand, have had a terrible season, yet, have managed to win 3 of their last 4 contests while also picking up some momentum and confidence.  The pitcher for the Angels is not yet determined, however, Mike Fiers (4-3) will get the start for the Tigers on Wednesday.  Despite his winning record, Fiers has struggled against the dangerous batters within the Angels lineup in the past, yet, seeks a solid outing in which to obtain the win for his team.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Angels

My reason for the pick :

The Tigers should be commended for winning 3 of their last 4 games, however, the Angels are slowly beginning to relocate their offensive swing, of sorts, while the pitching staff is becoming more consistent as well.  Besides, Fiers has been terrible against the lineup for the Angels in recent matchups, which lends me to believe that his bad luck will continue Wednesday night.  Detroit is slightly above average at Comerica Park, but, the Angels are also a stellar road team this season as they are 17-7 (ML).  In all, expect a competitive matchup in game 3 to which the Angels will ultimately get the victory.
