The Cards will welcome the Pirates to Busch Stadium as both teams will go head to head in a four-game series, the Pirates will be hoping to end this losing streak and better outcome the second time around while the Cards will look to take care of business at home. Both teams are from the NL Central division the Cards are in 3rd place while the Pirates are in 4th.
Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :
The Pirates are now on a three-game losing streak losing 8 of their last 10 games, they haven’t found their groove after beating out the Cards in the series at home. Dropping 3 games in a row cause the Pirates to drop into the fourth place of the division with a record of 28-25 this season. Coming into this series the Pirates are 9th in batting with 249 runs scored this season. The Pirates will look to bounce back after they couldn’t build on their impressive series opener putting up 8 runs on the Cards. The Pirates are 12-13 on the road this season.
Corey Dickerson will have to show up for the Pirates on the road when they play the Cards, he is the team leader in RBIs at 31 on the season the Pirates will need to find a way to stop this skid and Corey might be the batter that brings this skid to an end. The Pirates has started this season really but the second half of the season really hurt them. Corey line on the year is .311/.348/.489 with five homers and 31 RBI in 49 games. Great players often show up when the team needs them the most.
Pitching for the Pirates will be Trevor Williams. He let in four runs in four innings and was charged with a loss to the Cardinals on Saturday. He allowed seven base hits, including a solo home run by Matt Carpenter leading off the game. He notched three strikeouts and did not issue a walk in the outing. Williams falls to 5-3 with a strong 3.43 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 11 starts.
St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Cards will be back home for a 7 game homestand as they will play the Pirates once again after beating a few days ago. This time around they will be playing at home where the Cards are 15-11 on the season, the Cards are only one game behind the Cubs for the second spot in the division. Coming into this series the Cards are 21st in scoring with 219 runs scored this season, they won’t be unfazed by the Pirates as they know how to beat them and them playing at home will only help the cause. The Cards are 7th best in the league when it comes to pitching with a 3.57 ERA this season.
Yairo Munoz got his first major league home run. He really struggled the first time he got called up now he is 9-for-20 at the plate since his recall. He has become the Cardinals’ best defensive option at shortstop position with Paul DeJong being out because of a hand injury and he should be seeing a lot of play time until DeJong returns. He will have the opportunity to prove himself that he belongs in the starting rotation.
Matt Carpenter ripped a solo home run and added an RBI. He laid down a perfect bunt against the shift for a single in the third inning and then lined one over the right-field wall in the fifth. The veteran infielder is now batting .408 with three longballs over his last 12 games.
Pitching for the Cards will be Luke Weaver. He was charged with four runs over just four innings of work Monday in a loss to the Brewers. He gave up four hits including a home run to Christian Yelich and walked two on the day. He had pitched well in his previous three outings following a rough stretch. He will be looking to bounce back against the Pirates.
